The Vampire Diaries is leaving Netflix in March. Is this a sign of things to come for Supernatural?

The Vampire Diaries fans are going crazy. Netflix is removing the show and, understandably, those who stream the show are disappointed. But as Supernatural fans, we can’t help but fear for our own show.

I previously shared an update on Supernatural on Netflix and what the WarnerMedia streaming service will likely mean. So, is this the start of the end?

More from Supernatural

Why would I think that? The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural are both from Warner Bros. TV. Whatever you think of the quality doesn’t matter right now. It’s all about the production company, the money, and the future of WarnerMedia’s streaming service.

But there’s some good news. The Vampire Diaries is leaving Netflix Australia and New Zealand. It was that location’s Facebook page that put up the message, highlighting that there is a week to go before the title is removed. This isn’t leaving Netflix U.S.

At least not yet.

Sadly we must say farewell to the Vampire Diaries on March 1st. If you’ve got a spare 5 days, 2 hours and 33 minutes, give it one last complete binge before it’s gone.

Warner still has plans for it’s own streaming service. WarnerMedia has made it clear they’re getting into the game that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have already proven is successful. To make their streaming service worthwhile, they want to keep a lot of their content exclusive. That’s certainly the case for Friends and, during the TCAs, there was the hint would be the case for The CW shows.

Netflix’s current deal expires in the spring. It sounds like WarnerMedia (and because of that, The CW) doesn’t have any intention of renewing it. One-by-one, the Warner Bros. shows will start leaving.

The original deal was set up in July 2016. It could mean you’ve got until the very start of the summer, but now is the time to start planning ahead.

I think it’s the beginning of the end for the Warner titles on Netflix. The Vampire Diaries is a sign that Warner is willing to go through with its plan and we’ll want to be ready for the time Supernatural leaves. I’ve always thought the DVDs and Blu-rays better anyway since you only pay once and get to watch when you want, but I know a lot of people find Supernatural because of Netflix. It’s going to be sad, but get ready for its exit.
