Back at the Plunkett household, Tammy struggles to remember basic Geometry. Finding out that Bonnie didn’t receive her high school diploma either, Tammy suggests that they take the test together. Declining the offer, Bonnie quickly changes the subject when Christy walks in the door. Christy, who keeps getting bombarded by texts from Wendy encouraging her to quit, is starting to get annoyed. But after looking at her Visa bill, Christy’s tune quickly changes and she decides to kick the habit cold turkey because of how much she has been spending on cigarettes.
Back at the bistro, the woman still aren’t ready to give the new menu a shot. Christy is quite the grouch, and isn’t taking crap from anyone. Bonnie, when asked about it, again refuses to take the GED, as she is obviously scared that she won’t pass. But after a small pep talk by the ever-sage Marjorie, Bonnie, begrudgingly, decides to go through with it.
Taking the test, Tammy and Bonnie reminisce over their childhood when they were in school together. Bonnie gets pre-test jitters and has to change seats a few times to find the best one, without any distractions.
After a meeting, Christy’s sour attitude continues. She ends up taking it out on Wendy and Jill, who are just trying to be supportive. Tammy soon comes storming in with the news that she passed the GED test. Bonnie, checking her phone, discovers she did not. Blaming her results on her nerves, Bonnie quickly suggests they go out to celebrate Tammy’s success. Asking if she thought she might have ADD, Wendy tells Bonnie she should consider seeing a doctor to find out if there’s something she can do to concentrate better.
That night, Bonnie can’t sleep and decides to do some research on ADD. Christy, who also can’t sleep due to her cigarette cravings, joins her mother in the kitchen. Together, Christy helps Bonnie take an online quiz to see if she might have ADD, and the results seem to point in that direction.
At a meeting, Christy bums a cigarette before she quits for good. Getting caught by Marjorie, Christy wonders why she’s having such a hard time kicking this habit. During her share, Bonnie reveals that a doctor diagnosed her with ADD. Upset that she didn’t find out sooner, Bonnie wonders how much different her life could have been had a foster parent or a teacher saw that she needed help.
Finally deciding to give the new menu a shot, most of the women decide they like the new changes, with Bonnie being the only exception. The ladies decided to chip in and give Christy a present. Afraid that it was going to be a matching heart, kidney, or some other bodily organ to go with her lungs, Christy was pleasantly surprised to find out it was nicotine gum.
What did you think of this week’s episode of Mom? Allison Janney had quite a moment, didn’t see? Bonnie getting diagnosed with ADD came as a shock to me. It’s so great that the show can cover serious topics with a good dose of humor to take the edge off. I hope Christy can stop smoking for good. I’m kinda surprised how long this plot line has lasted, so who knows if this was her last battle with cigarettes. What do you think will happen on the next episode?
