Supernatural: Could John actually remember the events from the future?
Supernatural Episode 300 saw John return. By the end, everything had been fixed and John ‘woke from a dream.’ However, could he remember everything?
John Winchester spent the 300th episode learning about the future, everything his sons had done. It was a brilliant way to offer closure and bring an episode of Supernatural with all Winchesters together. However, he didn’t get to remember any of it.
Or did he?
John woke back up in 2003. On the phone to Dean, he mentioned that he’d had a good dream, but does he really think that it was all a dream. Is it possible that John would remember it all?

Of course, remembering everything could cause problems for the rest of Supernatural. There would always be the temptation to change something — not allow Dean to sell his soul to save Sam or not go off alone when John was possessed by Yellow Eyes. Changing just one thing could change everything else.
It could have a major effect on the Winchesters, the monsters of the world, and the people they’ve saved. In a way, it could help prevent the release of Lilith and Lucifer, but at the same time, the problems could have been much worse.

But knowing this doesn’t mean that John couldn’t remember. There’s a chance that he knows his dream was more than just a dream. He could believe that the future would play out like that, but that would mean allowing everything to happen as it did. As much as he wouldn’t like it, there’s a greater good element to allowing it.
John shares his regrets with Dean, the lack of family that Dean has. However, Dean makes a point of being happy about the way things have turned out. Sam had made a point of no longer being angry and understanding that John did the best he could. Armed with that knowledge, knowing the choices that he’d have to make wouldn’t be all that bad.
So, yes, there is a chance that John remembers it all. That doesn’t mean he’d do anything about it. He just gets to know that his sons are happy, have a family (as unconventional as it is), and the world is protected by the boys he raised.
