International Women’s Day 2019: 5 women who have shaped the Winchesters into the men they are now
5. Rowena MacLeod
When she was introduced: Season 10
How the Winchesters initially reacted: The Winchesters certainly didn’t take to Rowena kindly at first. In Supernatural Season 10, she was introduced as a villain. As the mother of Crowley, it was clear she was going to be the antagonist.
Yet, over the years, she’s changed. While she once went for power, she’s now after redemption. In Season 13, she admitted there may not be hope for her but she’s got to at least try. And the Winchesters have welcomed her into their family to help with that.

What the Winchesters learned from her: Rowena has certainly learned a lot about being good from the Winchesters, but there are a few things the brothers learned from her. They saw a woman who had power but wanted more, who was a mother but didn’t have faith in her own abilities. She was selfish but, at the same time, wanted to love her son.
Over the years, the Winchesters have learned that sometimes they need to trust her. Just because she can be bad doesn’t mean that she always wants to. And she doesn’t always need to get something out of helping.
The Winchesters have learned more about magic and witches since being around Rowena. Up until Season 10, there was the view that all witches had sold their souls for power. However, Rowena’s addition made it clear that some are born with magic — or can learn it — without the need for going to Hell.
