Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14 certainly took us through plenty of twists and turns. Here’s a look at the five best lines from Ouroboros.

The first half of Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14 wasn’t the most interesting, being a standard monster-of-the-week with some plot points throughout. However, the second half picked up the storyline and gave us a twisty ending that most likely never expected.

Now it’s time to delve into the best lines from the episode. Naturally, this is going to include some spoilers. Here are my five favorite lines.

Because… he’s Dean. And Dean is Dean. He’s fine.

Sam doesn’t want to tell Rowena everything that’s happened. I don’t think it’s that he doesn’t trust her and more the fact that he knows what he’s done is wrong. He knows that both Dean and Jack are a ticking time bomb.

This line makes it clear that Sam is burying his head in the sand. He’s choosing to believe that Dean can handle anything but it’s clear it’s also foreshadowing that everything is not fine in Supernatural Season 14.

‘Helpless men’ — that’s rich. No, I do eat ladies, too, but women have become so cautious lately. Must be all that finally waking up from centuries of misogynistic oppression. Good for them. Bad for you.

This is a poignant line for the current state of the world. With the #MeToo movement, it was only a matter of time that the Supernatural writers would throw that in. That came from a villain, who made a point of the positivity of the movement, pushing against centuries of misogynistic oppression.

There is an element of an insult thrown in but then I remember that we do need to start waking up from it all. More of us need to start pushing against it. We also got an extremely good reason for Noah going after only male victims throughout the episode. It wasn’t sexist in a bad way but had a good message — we all need to watch out and be cautious!

Until very recently, I was the villain.

Rowena has a way with short sentences. She certainly had some of the best lines throughout the episode, teaching Jack a lot about magic and small things in hunting. However, it was her remark to Sam that caught my attention.

She reminds us just how far she’s come in Supernatural since her introduction in Season 10. She was the villain, the one that the Winchesters would have to take care of. However, over the years, she’s become friends and even started to care about the Winchesters. And now she cares about Jack, too.

Sam and Dean, they’re human, and they’re very extraordinary, brave, special humans, but they’re — they’re still humans. And humans burn bright, but for a very brief time compared to, you know, things like us. And eventually, they’re gone, even the very best ones, and we have to carry on. It’s just — It’s part of growing up.

There is absolutely no way that I could cut down this line. Every part of it is so poignant and important. In fact, this whole scene is one of my favorites from the whole episode — maybe from the whole season.

Jack has learned so much about the world over the last season and a half. We’ve watched him learn about his powers, good and evil, and even about people. We know that he’s struggled to accept death and move forward. Yet, he still hasn’t completely grasped the idea.

Castiel has so much good to say about the Winchester brothers. He knows that, as humans, they can’t live forever. Eventually, they will permanently die. That’s something Jack has to accept. I also feel like some of this was a nod to us, as we’re going to have to accept that at some point the Winchester brothers may finally die permanently.

I am not a child! I’m the son of Lucifer. I’m a hunter! I am a Winchester!

The last line of the night has to go to Jack. In the promo for the episode, we heard him say “I’m the son of Lucifer.” Of course, in the context of the trailer, that sounded like a bad thing. However, there was far more to the line and the cutting for the episode vs. the trailer was very different.

Getting the full line was perfect. Not only did he bring up Lucifer — likely bringing up the fact he’s half archangel rather than part of Lucifer’s blood — but he also reminds Michael that he’s a hunter and a Winchester. He is part of this family and, despite the constant question of whether he’s good or evil, we’re reminded that he’s not turning against this.
