The Order is one of Netflix’s latest Originals. It makes the perfect weekend binge and here are five reasons why.

On Mar. 7, Netflix released one of its newest Originals. The Order is perfect for fans of shows like SupernaturalThe Vampire Diaries, and The Magicians — hey, there are even some actor crossovers! With werewolves and magic, it’s full of twists, turns, and humor.

Jack Morton is an average teenager with one goal in mind: to get revenge for the death of his mother. After being raised by his grandfather (who also wants revenge), he’s taken on a journey of discovery as he learns about the practice of dark magic, the werewolves that hunt the witches, and the truth behind his mother’s death.

Not sure if it’s worth a binge? Here are five reasons you should check it out and binge this weekend.

5. It’s not your typical werewolf/witch storyline

If you thought it was going to be a standard storyline involving magic and evil then you’ll be mistaken. It’s not clear who the villains are — and even when you think you know, it’s not quite everything it seems.

Think the werewolves are going to be the most dangerous creatures? You’ll be surprised at the way someone becomes a werewolf, for sure!

4. College teens without all the angst

More from Netflix

I’ll be one of the first to admit that I’m fed up of teen angst shows. They offer little in terms of character development. The Order initially seemed like it could be that, but quickly proved me wrong. While Jack wants revenge, he’s grown up somewhat balanced — albeit arrogant and naive.

The only college kid that has a bit of angst is Lilith, but she’s not in it enough (just yet, at least, assuming a second season) to be all that annoying. Plus, she can actually admit when she’s wrong.

3. There’s plenty of humor

One thing the trailer for The Order didn’t show was the humor in the series. It’s packed with a budding friendship between Jack and Randall, his RA. This is perfect to help balance with the magic and the darker elements throughout the series.

And it’s not just the two of them that add humor. I adore the ethics professor and his student-excuse-bingo and Jack’s revenge-crazed grandfather. That’s just a hint of what to expect.

2. It’s not afraid to touch on dark material

A woman dying of cancer who wants magic to heal her. The knowledge that all magic requires some sort of sacrifice. Creatures literally killing people and students. Yeah, this isn’t a show for the faint-hearted.

It’s a show that isn’t afraid to touch on some of the darker material. You’ll be left trying to figure out some of the twists. I’ll admit it’s got nothing on The Magicians in terms of the writing and cinematography but it’s still good for a quick binge!

1. You’ll be left wondering “WHAT?!?”

And if you thought the show was going to go easy on you because it’s the first season, you’ll be sadly mistaken. This is a show that will lead you down a supernatural rabbit hole. Without any spoilers at all, this is a show that literally leaves you with your mouth open.

The end of each episode, in fact, will leave you needing more. You need to binge it instead of wanting to because you have that necessity to know what’s going on next.
