Dean makes a choice nobody likes

More from Supernatural

The episode starts with Zachariah in a bar, believing it’s all over. However, his “boss” shows up and smites the people in the bar, giving Zachariah a second chance. It’s clear that second chance is linked to Dean’s actions from the previous episode.

Dean made it clear that he was considering saying yes to Michael. At the start of “Point of No Return,” he’s packing up his belongings in a box, including the keys to the Impala and his leather jacket. Sam tries to stop his brother and even brings backup: Castiel.

Oh, and Castiel is willing to get Dean to Bobby, who isn’t happy with Dean’s choice. Bobby wants Dean to wait a little longer before this “Plan A” action. While talking, Castiel gets a vision and quickly disappears. He happens to be in a field, kills a couple of angels, and then pulls Adam Milligan’s body out of the ground.

Another option for the angels

It turns out that bringing Adam back from the dead is certainly for the angels. He could agree to be Michael’s vessel, and Adam admits that the angels offered to bring his mom back from the dead, too. It’s clear the angels have given up on Dean.

The three brothers have a chance to bond, but Adam makes it clear that his only family is his mother. John wasn’t around and doesn’t seem impressed that Sam doesn’t like John — he’d have taken a father in any form.

Meanwhile, Dean has been locked in the panic room. He refuses to allow Adam to say yes to Michael, holding the guilt of so many deaths already. It’s time for him to be who he was meant to and he’s sure that Sam will eventually say yes to Lucifer.

Sam leaves and Dean uses the chance to banish Castiel away with a banishing sigil. That gives Dean a chance to escape and Sam has no choice but to go after his brother while Bobby watches Adam. However, while Adam sleeps, Zachariah visits him through a dream and warns him that the Winchesters are bad news.

Dean tries to get to the angels

Now free, Dean turns to a preacher on the street, asking the preacher to pray to the angels. However, Castiel hears the prayers and shows up, beating Dean up in an alley that he disobeyed Heaven just for Dean to choose the angels after all. He gets Dean back to Bobby’s, only for them to learn Adam disappeared — he clearly told the angels his location.

Sure enough, Zachariah is in the Green Room with Adam. It turns out Adam was just bait to lure Dean and Adam doesn’t have a chance to see his mom. Adam may be angry but Zachariah just makes Adam cough up blood.

The Winchesters and Castiel go to save Adam, leading to Castiel taking on five angels at once. It may be suicide, but Castiel would prefer that then watching Dean fail or let Michael in. It turns out Castiel had an angel banishing sigil on his chest and gets rid of the angels — banishing himself at the same time. Sam and Dean get access to the Green Room.

Of course, it was all a trap. Zachariah is able to overpower the Winchesters, hurting Adam and Sam to force Dean into saying yes. Dean offers to say yes as long as Zachariah stops what he’s doing. With that, Zachariah calls for Michael but Dean manages to kill Zachariah.

Before Michael shows up, Dean helps Sam and Adam up to get them out of the Green Room. Dean and Sam get over the threshold and out of the Green Room but Adam is trapped in the room. The two have no choice but to leave him behind.

What made Dean change his mind about saying yes to Michael? You can thank the faith Sam had in Dean. It’s time to keep fighting.
