All American: 8 questions we have for Season 2
By Mads Lennon
All American ended its first season with run with a few explosive game-changers. The show better get renewed because I’ve got tons of new questions.
Television finales with a focus on emotional through-lines in favor of dramatic reveals tend to be more satisfying in terms of getting closure on character arcs. It’s what All American does well in its final Season 1 episode, “Championships”.
It may not be the most flashy conclusion you’ve ever seen, but it delivers on a different level, one that will leave you satisfied while still leaving you shocked and surprised with a few well-placed jaw-droppers.
By the end of the hour, I had tons of new questions bursting in my head. I’ve narrowed them down to eight I’m dying to know the answer to when (and if) All American returns for a sophomore season.
8. Will Coop and her mom be able to fix things?

Surprisingly, Coop’s mother invites her to return home to ensure her safety. Laura becomes a key player in the mission to take down Tyrone and it is at her coaxing Coop’s mother realizes the danger her daughter is in. She points out they can’t work on their differences if Coop is dead. I’m happy to see Coop reuniting with her family. I can’t say I’m not wary of the outcome. Her mother has been resolute in her homophobia since day one.
I don’t know that living under the roof of someone who can’t respect who she is will be the healthiest choice for Coop. Growth is possible. Might her mother have gotten the wake-up call she needed to try and change her archaic viewpoint? I hope so. I’d love to see a happier Coop in season two.
7. Will Chris make a full recovery?
The second Chris took the tumble and said he couldn’t feel his legs, I started having flashbacks to Jason Street in Friday Night Lights. Thankfully, Chris’s injuries didn’t end up being as severe. The paralysis wore off by the time the ambulance showed up.
Demonstrating his sportsmanship, Spencer was immediately by Chris’ side in the aftermath, no petty arguments were going to keep him from supporting his once-best friend through a terrifying moment such as that one. We don’t know what state Chris is in after the championship game. Only that he’s in recovery. Will he be able to play football again?
