1. Robyn forces Calvin to face the consequences of his actions.

Calvin’s speech has an unintended impact on Robyn. Once the plane lands, he learns his panic was all for nothing. No one found his laptop. His brother was in a car accident, hence the phone call from the police. He immediately resets, as if he’s learning nothing from the past six hours, and goes to hit on the fan from earlier, even asking Robyn to get his bags as if she was his lackey and not an accomplished publicist.

His brusque attitude combined with Penny thanking Robyn in her own way for the advice and a text from Jamie, Robyn’s old friend she’d been ignoring the whole flight despite his repeated attempts to reconnect, forces her to have an epiphany.

She has an image in her head of who she used to be, the girl in the old photograph with Jamie and Ruth from when they were teenagers. Someone who wasn’t entangled in the morally bankrupt world she dwells in now.

We’ve watched Robyn do despicable things over the  course of the season and be complicit in plenty of awful scenarios. For once, Robyn makes a different, literal, call. She dials in a connection to the police and gives them a tip about Calvin’s laptop, cementing the end of his career.

Using a near-death moment from plane turbulence is an overdone maneuver by television to force a character to have a revelation, but somehow, in this episode, it works. Likely because the inevitably of the moment is sewn into the fabric of the episode, with Jamie the perfect time capsule reminder of person Robyn used to be. The impact of his presence, of Penny, makes her change of heart feels earned in the final hour.
