Lifetime delivers another thriller in The Killer Next Door. Julie is trying to rebuild her life after her husband dies but her sister-in-law, Allie, has other plans.

If you’re watching a movie and it begins with a scene of two characters driving somewhere, especially on Lifetime, you can bet they’re going to end up in a car crash where one of them dies (or loses their memory). In Lifetime’s latest thriller, The Killer Next Door, Julie is left a widowed single mother when her husband perishes in a car accident.

She is convinced to move across country to live closer to her sister-in-law and get a fresh start with her son Matty (named after his late father). Except… Allison has killer plans for Julie and is desperate to become Matty’s new mom, believing him to be a version of her brother reincarnated.

Remember the whiteboard in Mean Girls that Janice, Cady, and Damien used to keep track of their plan to take down Regina George? Allie totally watched that movie and stole the idea from them. We frequently see someone in a black hoodie crossing things off their list, “make Julie look crazy”, “alienate neighbors”, that sort of thing.

She loads Julie’s trash with empty alcohol bottles, stalks her, and posts photos of her on the weird neighborly social media page to make everyone think she’s a lush who doesn’t look after her kid.

It’s pretty apparent Allison is the one making life a nightmare for Julie since we aren’t given any other legitimate suspects. Plus Allison keeps undermining Julie’s parenting and picking up Matthew from the babysitter to take him out for ice cream and doing weird things like telling him to call her “mommy”.
