Meet the cast of Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop live action series

Netflix has officially found the cast for Cowboy Bebop and revealed a little more about what to expect from the highly anticipated series.

From the first moment Cowboy Bebop was announced as a live action series we had a strong suspicion that it would be something Netflix takes seriously because of its profound popularity. One of fans first inquiries tended to circle back to who we might see fill the roles of the iconic and brilliant characters by series creator Shinichiro Watanabe.

Now, Netflix has finally revealed the majority of the cast with a few surprising directions that help diversify the core character group. Rounding out the cast is John Cho as the stoic badass bounty hunter Spike Spiegel. Cho (Star Trek, Searching) is certainly a big name to attach to the series and brings star power to the series and has proven his range with several different genre roles that will make Cho an interesting casting choice to see evolve over the course of the series. If anything, Cho landed a spot as one of animes most influential characters that’s still highly respected decades later.

Others include Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage) playing the role of ex-military bounty hunter and father figure of the Bebop Jet Black. The fan favorite character Faye will be portrayed by Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World) who in the series is an amnesiac stricken woman that builds an entirely new life for herself while seeking answers about her former life.

The only missing member of the Bebop crew left is Ed, who is reported to still be in the casting process and certainly isn’t an easy role to fill.

We also learned that Spike’s former best friend and comrade Vicious will make his presence known in Bebop, played by Alex Hassell (Suburbicon) which also confirms we’ll be seeing Julia appear as the tether between Spike and Vicious. With most of the cast confirmed, there was also some confirmation on production elements of Cowboy Bebop which is expected to debut late this year.

The Netflix and Tomorrow Studios asset is said to have a 10 episode first season, presumably hour-long episodes given the drama format, written by Cristopher Yost. Alex Garcia Lopez (Punisher) is additionally attached to direct the first two chapters of Bebop meaning the series is beginning to pick up steam towards production with most pieces now falling into place.

In the past, Cowboy Bebop has been in talks to be a film or series, often falling through until this new exciting Netflix venture became a reality. At the moment, Cowboy Bebop is said to begin actual production of the series this summer, but we’ll take virtually anything we can get that prepares us for the thrilling adventures of Cowboy Bebop in live action form.
