The top 10 movies: How did Shazam! perform at the box office?
By Sandy C.
What did you see in theaters this weekend? Shazam! was the main focus, but two other debuts also entered the box office. Here are the top 10 movies of the weekend…
The box office numbers are in thanks to Box Office Mojo, check out how the movie you went to see in theaters performed as we countdown the top 10 movies of the weekend, below, beginning with the champ, Shazam!.
Unsurprisingly, Shazam! won the box office with $53.4 million domestically. Worldwide, the DC film has a total of $158.7 million. Put together with a reported budget of $100 million, this isn’t too shabby! In fact, it’s fantastic. The latest DC film is a clear winner with a heartfelt message of love and family, though it doesn’t lack dark moments and sinister villains.
At No. 2 you’ll find Pet Sematary with $25 million. Critics praised the movie with a C+ CinemaScore, while it currently has over 60% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes. Neither score is as impressive as Shazam! but it all comes down to the fans. And those fans don’t seem to be too impressed.

The reviews from fan still didn’t stop the movie from making a decent amount at the box office, though. When you consider it only took a $21 million budget to make, its $25 million in domestic sales is a win. Not to mention, add in the $17.3 million in sales overseas and Pet Sematary now has a grand total of $42.3 million.
Dumbo flies in at No. 3 with $18.2 million, descending pretty rapidly for Disney. Us scares its way up to No. 4 with $13.8 million, and Captain Marvel settles for No. 5 with another $12.6 million added to its total.
Captain Marvel crossed $1 billion over the week, now proudly standing with $1.037 billion worldwide.
Finally, the third new release of the weekend, Robin Bissell’s The Best of Enemies, is at No. 6 with a low $4.5 million. The movie stars Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson. Don’t feel too bad for it, though, with a budget of only $10 million, The Best of Enemies will be making some profit by the end of the coming weekend.
