Game of Thrones’ wildest love triangle: Jaime, Brienne and Tormund
With Jaime arriving in Westeros and Tormund right behind, Brienne might find herself as the center of romantic tension in Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 2.
Aside from a reaction shot, Brienne didn’t appear at all in Game of Thrones opener. Episode 2 hopefully gives Westeros’ bravest warrior more to do.
Jaime’s back
Starting with Jaime’s arrival and presumed trial, these two have a complicated history – does he love her? Does she love him? Will they? Won’t they? All these questions swirl around this relationship.
Brienne’s the only person Jaime’s told about the Mad King and why Jaime killed him. No way Brienne lets Jaime face the figurative firing squad without ensuring he receives a fair trial. Perhaps, Sansa grants Brienne a favor for her service and grants Jaime guest right until the war is over.
Brienne and Jaime will finally be in the same place at the same time and on the same side. No Cersei or oath to keep them apart or bring them together, they can decide freely how they feel about each other.

The wilding element
Except, Tormund’s also in Winterfell, and he’s never shied about his feelings for “the big woman.” It’s kind of adorable in his weird wilding way. With the world ending, Tormund’s bound to become more vocal about his intentions toward Brienne.
He’s the wrench in the Brienne & Jaime relationship. Jaime might let Tormund “win” Brienne because he deems the wilding more honorable. Or, the competition spurs him onward and Jaime finally goes after the love he wants in life.
Brienne’s decision
Gwendoline Christie said that Game of Thrones Season 8 focuses on Brienne and her life as a woman, not a warrior. Brienne will have to make a decision based on her heart and how she feels, not according to loyalty, honor, or oaths.
She finally has to confront her feelings in a real way and decide her own way forward as a woman and a warrior. Who knows if that includes Jaime, Tormund, or if Brienne rides off on her own with Pod at her side, comfortable in her own skin?
