Between Tormund’s stories about giants and Arya’s controversial scene, this week’s episode had its jaw-dropping moments. Here are four WTF moments from the latest episode of Game of Thrones!

The last episode of Game of Thrones was a subtle reintroduction to all the players on this elaborate game of chess. While the premiere had its weird and shocking moments, it was mostly a quiet introduction before the winter storm hits. Easily the most shocking thing to happen from that episode was the White Walker spiral and even that felt quaint compared to other things the show has done.

This episode is not much different with most of the show trying to dwell in moments of character. Nothing was overly shocking or jaw-dropping except one scene involving Arya which caused controversy this week. This being said, it’s one of the best episodes of the entire series and sets the table for a lot of heartbreak to come.

Without much further ado, here are the four WTF moments from Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 2!

1. Bran gets mysteriously around

Throughout the episode, Bran would just appear in scenes alone, like the one with Jaime by the weirwood tree. As mentioned on the site before, I have my own disability. And all throughout the episode, I could not help but wonder, “How on Earth is Bran getting around?”

His chair does not look practical for pushing himself and some of the environments we find him in do not look wheelchair friendly. And with each scene, he appears by himself, with no helper in any vicinity whatsoever. Surely, the brilliant kid has an assistant of some kind. That or he has secret teleportation powers that he has yet to expose to the public.

2. Tormund wants the big woman

The awkward relationship between Tormund and Brienne of Tarth is television worth living for. He’s such an awkward brute of a man and his undying affection for Brienne is endearing and hilarious.

In the scene, Tormund returns with Beric and others to give the unfortunate news about the Umbers. They relay the message that whoever has not joined Winterfell, is with the Night King now. The bleakness of the situation is read all over Jon Snow’s face.

But in the most disparaging of conversations, Tormund looks around curiously with a mischievous raised eyebrow, asking, “Is the big woman still here?” Whatever happens next week, here is hoping that the Tormund-Brienne bad romance continues because it brings so much levity around the show.

3. Arya breaks the internet

Arya shook the world in this episode and rightfully so. We’ve all watched her grow up from childhood, so this moment in the show was asking a lot for a lot of fans.

In the scene, Gendry brings the weapon she has asked him to make for her. Shortly after, she starts asking him about how many women he has been with. Gendry answers hesitantly but tells her about three total. Then, Aryra goes full controversy and strips down saying, 2We’re probably going to die tomorrow, I want to know what this feels like before that happens.”

Meanwhile, the rest of us are watching the show squirming like we’re seeing our little sister get intimate with someone. As a character, she is a full grown adult but for most of us, it was a huge WTF since we have seen her since she was a little girl.

4. Tormund has quite the story

Tormund was the MVP of this entire episode. If he dies next week, no one will ever make the claim that this character was not memorable. And his last bit of dialogue on this episode was easily the funniest of the entire show.

In the sequence, everyone including Tyrion, Jaime, Brienne, Davos, and others are sitting in a circle drinking before the looming battle to come. Tormund then approaches carrying his own beverage in what appears to be a hollowed out tusk. He notices Jaime mingling with his “big woman” Brienne and begins telling an insane story about giants to Jaime.

He explains how he got the name “Giantsbane,” telling Jaime that he killed a giant when he was just 10 years old. Tormund then adds that right after he killed the giant, he crawled into bed with the giant’s wife and when she woke, the lady giant mistook him for a baby and breastfed him for 3 months. He adds, “That’s how I got so strong. Giant’s milk.” Kristofer Hivju plays the moment so so straight and serious that it just makes the story that much funnier.

May Tormund live forever!

As previously stated, nothing was “overly shocking” but the episode did have some scenes that were either extremely controversial or funny. If anything, this episode shows that character development has paid off tremendously over the past decade.
