On this day in Supernatural history, Jensen Ackles was introduced into Dark Angel. While he would become a series regular in the second season as Alec, he was introduced first as Ben.

As a Supernatural fan, you will know that Jensen Ackles was in Dark Angel with Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly. A series set in a dystopian future, he was a series regular in the second season, playing a character called Alec. However, he was initially introduced in the first season as Ben.

Wait, how could he be two characters? Dark Angel was all about manufactured soldiers. Alba’s Max and Ackles’ Ben and Alec were test tube babies infused with animal DNA to make them super soldiers. Many of them were identical, which is who Ackles could play two characters at different times.

More from Supernatural

The first was Ben, who was introduced on this day in history. Apr. 24, 2001 saw the first airing of “Pollo Loco,” where Max finally found one of her brothers, Ben. However, the reunion wouldn’t go the way she hoped.

I’m not going to share how the episode ended because I don’t want to spoil those who would like to watch it. It’s Season 1, Episode 16 for those who would like to find the individual episode. You don’t need to know the majority of the story up to this point, except that the other children Max escaped the compound with were slowly turning up as adults and Ben was one of them.

It’s interesting to note that Dark Angel was the first TV work Ackles did after leaving Days of Our Lives. He would later go on to become a series regular for the second season, a regular on Dawson’s Creek, and then would become a series regular in Smallville Season 4, before finally landing one of the two lead roles in Supernatural. It was all up from this one single performance on the sci-fi series.
