Barry attempts to get rid of Detective Loach’s problem in the newest episode of HBO’s Barry, which premieres tonight.

Just when Barry feels like he makes progress towards a better life, something happens that forces him back to his old ways. It’s the classic case of one step forward, but two steps back. After seeing Sam for the first time, Barry is forced to attend dinner with Sally and her ex-husband. Although Sam abused her, Sally avoids confrontation and remains friendly with Sam. When Barry asks Sally about why she’s being nice to Sam, Sally breaks down and said that she never stood up to Sam the night she left for LA. Barry tries to take matters into his own hands and force Sam out of town, but he scoffs at this and ends up making a distasteful joke about Sally.

Later that night, Sally meets up with Sam at his hotel room, where Sam tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. However, his true motive is revealed when he asks Sally to not perform the scene which features Sam’s history of abuse. Sam gets agitated with Sally and scolds her, calling her a liar. Meanwhile, Barry is waiting outside of the hotel room with a gun. When Sally opens the door, Barry has a clear shot at Sam, but freezes up and runs away.
