Barry prepares for an important scene with Sally while Fuches goes on a mission in the latest episode of Barry, which premieres tonight on HBO.

Whether you liked it or not, last week’s episode of HBO’s Barry was one of the most insane episodes of television in recent memory. Between long, bloody fight sequences that spanned over a few minutes and dream scenarios in the desert, Bill Hader continues to push the limits of his television series. For a quick recap of last week’s episode, keep reading.

Right from the get-go, the opening sequence was not like a normal episode of Barry. The episode began with a title card, no music, and no cold open. The scene opened with a stoned and dazed Ronny Proxin, the man who is dating Detective Loach’s ex-wife. Barry confronted Ronny in his home and let him know that he has been sent to kill him. However, Barry elected to let Ronny live and forced him to drive to Chicago and disappear for a year.

Although Barry politely asked Ronny to leave, Ronny, who is a Taekwondo expert, won’t go down without a fight and attacked Barry. The two brawled all throughout the house, injuring each other until Ronny finally collapsed due to an injured windpipe. The madness did not stop there. Barry ran into Ronny’s young daughter, Lily, who has animal-like instincts and an unbelievable fighting repertoire. Lily stabbed Barry and escaped the house.

Barry is seriously injured and rendezvoused with Fuches in the car. While Fuches attempted to fix his wounds, Barry repeatedly passed out and had a vision of him being greeted by Fuches in the dessert after coming home from the war. Barry and Fuches eventually find Lily perched on top of a house. Lily sneakily jumped onto the vehicle, entered through the window, and bit Fuches, which left him bleeding profusely.

Because of their injuries, Barry ran into a supermarket to gather supplies for their wounds. Surprisingly, Barry ran into Ronny, who is not happy to see him. Ronny attacked Barry and as he went for the final blow, Ronny was shot in the face by Detective Loach. As Detective Loach approached Barry, Ronny furiously roundhouse kicked Loach to the face, which killed him instantly. As Ronny crept in on Barry, he was shot and killed by the cops. While the cops are occupied, Barry snuck out the back and reunited with Fuches.

After writing that recap, it’s still hard to believe that actually happened on last week’s show. It was truly unlike anything I have ever seen. Tonight’s episode will dive back into the acting class drama as Barry attempts to help a struggling Sally with her scene involving her ex-husband. Meanwhile, NoHo Hank plans a future attack with his new army and Fuches continues to repair his relationship with Barry.

Below is an official synopsis for episode 6:

"Gene helps Barry get into character as he prepares for his big scene with Sally; Sally resolves to embrace her truth; Noho Hank prepares for a big night with his newly trained men; Fuches goes on a mission."
