The season finale of Grey’s Anatomy’s 15th season aired last night and one major character’s fate was left up in the air in the final moments.

Last night’s finale of Grey’s Anatomy was pretty intense. This show has been on for 15 seasons, and yet it is still capable of throwing out surprising twists.

If you haven’t watched the finale of Grey’s Anatomy yet, stop reading now. Major spoilers from the episode are ahead.

In one episode alone we saw three doctors get fired, one check into a psychiatric facility, one gave birth, a break-up, two reunions, and someone vanished into the dense fog that settled over Seattle.

There are plenty of questions for Season 16 to answer. What is going to happen to poor Tom? He has no idea Teddy and Owen confessed their love to each other. Will Amelia and Link’s split be permanent? Is Nico going to get the job at an out-of-state hospital? Will #Schmico survive if so? What is going to happen with the insurance fraud situation that currently has Andrew Deluca imprisoned?

But perhaps the biggest question of all is what happened to Jackson Avery at the end of the episode? He and Maggie had a pretty epic fight, one that could mean the ending of their relationship.

After trying to return to the hospital to help with Gus’s surgery, they realize they won’t be able to travel in the fog, and Jackson gets out of the car to check out the surroundings.

Maggie waits for him, but it takes longer than it should. The last thing we see is Maggie looking around, calling out Jackson’s name.

Krista Vernoff, the current showrunner, chatted with TVLine in the finale’s aftermath. She described Jackson’s current predicament as “worrisome.” Not a good sign!

But should fans be concerned Jackson will die? I don’t think so. Unless we get sudden news about Jesse Williams leaving the show, I would assume Jackson will be okay. But that doesn’t mean he’s not injured or in need of assistance.

Thankfully, Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for a 16th and 17th season so we’ll definitely get an answer when the show returns this fall.
