Bob’s Burgers: Assessing season 9 predictions post finale
With season 9 now officially over, it’s time to look back at some old predictions and see if any ring true for Bob’s Burgers.
It seems as though every season gets shorter but maybe it’s just as the show goes on. In the middle of the May, Bob’s Burgers wrapped up its 9th season. Despite being on for 9 seasons, the show has only aired for 8 years. The series has accomplished more than some full-length series do. With season 10 confirmed, the show could be going on for many years to come.
Before each season starts, it’s always fun to speculate what will happen next. Most shows have some kind of continuity but Bob’s Burgers doesn’t. Instead, before season 9 started, I came up with 6 different plotlines the show could use. With the season 9 finale behind it, it’s time to look back on those predictions and see if they came true.
With my New Year’s resolutions, it was pretty much 0 for 0. Hopefully, I’ll have better luck than last year. Season 9 of Bob’s Burgers had a lot of exciting moments so hopefully at least one of them came true. If not, then there’s always next year.

The first prediction was a little bit off-the-wall. Of all the Belchers, Louise is the one who has yet to have a romantic plotline. In season 9, it seems like a worthwhile venture to explore.
However, Bob’s Burgers didn’t feel the same. There were no romantic subplots for Louise nor did she have any interest. It’s not unusual but the other two Belcher kids have each had their romantic moments. It’s easy to see Louise wouldn’t though so it’s 0 for 1.
Moving from the youngest Belcher to the oldest, it’s Tina time. A good plotline for Tina would have been giving her a new best friend. Most of her plotlines are romantic and I thought it was time for her to focus on friends. Bob’s Burgers did deliver on this one somewhat as Tina did make friends with her science partner and a goose. While neither friendships stuck, the show did explore the plotline so it’s a win.
In terms of episodes, Bob’s Burgers is mostly set in the present. We might get a few flashbacks but other than that, nothing. For season 9, an idea I had was to show some flashback episodes with a look back at Bob and Linda in their early days or some holiday episodes.
This one didn’t happen at all. All of the episodes in season 9 were set in the present or at least, didn’t seem like they were in flashback form. Maybe it’ll be something they touch on in the movie but this is another fail so we’re 1 for 3.
The 4th idea is one that most people probably wouldn’t think. Bob and Linda Belcher are the heartbeat of the restaurant and their family. Regardless, couples always have their problems and the Belchers are no different.
One of my plotline ideas for season 9 was that the couple had some problems. Surprisingly, this is one they did even though it only lasted for an episode. The two argued on Valentine’s Day and spent most of the episode, angry which was a change of pace for them. It’s even now with 2 out of 4 ideas being used.
The last two ideas are for episodes so they can go together. The next-to-last idea was for the series to make more Gene-centric episodes. As the middle Belcher, he’s usually overshadowed but this season, Bob’s Burgers outdid themselves. Instead of only 1 or 2 Gene-centric episodes, there were 3. While not all of them were great, Gene finally got the recognition he deserved.
As for the last idea, it was for more two-part episodes. This one was a complete fail as the series didn’t have any. It’s not something they always do but can make for an exciting episode.
Looking at my totals, it leaves with a 50% success rate. Could have been better but I won’t complain. Season 9 of Bob’s Burgers was by no means my favorite but did have some high points and that’s all that matters. Not every season can be a complete winner but with a movie on the way, Bob’s Burgers is doing just fine.
