Did you miss Jensen Ackles in the director’s chair during the last couple of seasons? Don’t worry, he’s returning to it for Supernatural Season 15.

Jensen Ackles is officially returning to the director’s chair for Supernatural Season 15. This is the show that he made his directorial debut, so it only makes sense that he would return to the chair in the final season. What do we know so far?

During “Jus in Bello,” the Rome Supernatural convention, on May 19, the actor made it extremely clear that he was going to direct an episode. He’ll do the first episode that the show films. Will that be the premiere episode? It’s certainly possible.

What’s worth remembering is that the show doesn’t always film the episodes in order of air date. In Season 14, the 15th episode filmed was actually the 16th episode to air. When Ackles directed the first episode to be filmed for Season 10, it was actually the third episode to air on The CW. Filming schedules are switched around depending on actor schedules (for the guest stars), lighting or time of year needs, or restrictions on filming locations, among other things.

The episodes Ackles usually directs are the third or fourth episodes to air of the seasons. So, it’s possible that the show will film out of order and film either the third or fourth episode of Season 15 first.

It will certainly be exciting to see Ackles back in the director’s chair. He’s not been in it since Season 11 on the show, after making his debut in Season 6 for the episode “Weekend at Bobby’s.”

We’ll be keeping an eye out on other directors coming into the show. There’s hope that some other familiar faces will sit in that director’s chair, including Amanda Tapping, Richard Speight Jr., and Phil Sgriccia.
