The problem is Lisa and Ben can’t live their lives. Lisa made it clear something needs to change. Parameters need setting to make sure they can actually live and not just survive, especially if there’s nothing particular coming after them right now.

A case of a baby
Meanwhile, Sam is on a hunt. He’s too late for a family, where the husband and wife are dead, and the baby gone. He notices that everyone so far has had the same alarm system and there’s one more couple who he needs to help.
When he gets to the house, he’s too late for the couple. However, the attacker is still there and hisses when slashed with a silver knife. The attacker flees, leaving Sam with a baby.
There’s only one person Sam can think of to help with this: Dean. Naturally, Dean doesn’t want to help but there’s a baby in danger and he can’t leave this innocent, so he teaches Lisa how to use a gun and then heads out on the road.
Seeing Dean be a dad
This is when we get to find out that Dean can look after a baby. He’s had experience with Lisa’s infant niece, and he’s taken all the tips on board. It’s sweet, but Dean is also extremely protective of this little guy.
While at the grocery store, a woman approaches to offer help when the baby doesn’t stop crying. Dean sees her eyes flash in the security camera feed, and he realizes they’re dealing with a shapeshifter. Despite the Winchesters getting away with the baby, the shapeshifter sees their license plates and shifts into the form of a police officer.
When Sam learns that the husband of one of the victims is still alive, he learns that the husband had left the wife. The baby wasn’t his. Just as Sam theorizes that the babies are shapeshifters, Dean sees blood and skin splatter every from the baby, who has shifted into the baby he’s seen on the box of diapers.
There’s no much time to discuss this, though. The shifter in the form of the police officer turns up, who wants to take the baby to “our father.”
Sam turns up in time to save Dean and the baby, shooting the shifter in the heart with a silver bullet. The Winchesters take the baby to the Campbells, where it turns out Christian and his wife, Arlene, have wanted to raise a baby. It’s not a happy ending for all, as another shifter shows up. This one is immune to all things that kill a shifter, he kills Mark Campbell, and takes the baby away.
The Winchesters have faced their first Alpha. Bringing the baby to the Campbells was bait for the Alpha and Dean wants to know if Sam knew that. While Sam denies it, it’s clear he’s holding something back. Samuel Campbell is also hiding something – someone wants him to catch the Alpha.
It’s the end of Dean’s normal life
At the very end, Dean returns to Lisa and Ben. They need to make a decision. Locking the two in the house and making the move is just like how John raised Sam and Dean, and Dean doesn’t want to be that type of guy.
Which is safer for the Braedens? Lisa isn’t sure but she does know that Dean is a hunter and that’s not going to change. She things Dean should be on the road and come home whenever he can. Which is just what he does. At the end of the episode, he uncovers the Impala with a smile. It’s time to get back to work.
