During Hellatus, you’re likely looking for something else to bide your time. Good Omens may only be six episodes but it’s certainly something to consider.

Good Omens is the recent Amazon Prime Original that has gained a strong following. Based on the novel of the same name by Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, it already had a fanbase built in so its success wasn’t all that surprising. As a Supernatural fan, you’ll certainly want to give the Prime series a chance.

I’ve already shared how the novel was inspiration for some of the Season 5 characters. Eric Kripke has confirmed this, even if it wasn’t already clear from mannerisms, conversations, and a fight for humans. However, this is just one small reason to give this show a chance during Hellatus.

Here are five other reasons to check out Good Omens on Amazon Prime.

5. It’s got an excellent cast

This is a show that certainly didn’t suffer from poor casting. It seems like some of the biggest names were queuing up to be part of the series. David Tennant and Michael Sheen are the two leads, but Jon Hamm, Jack Whitehall, and Benedict Cumberbatch were also attached to the series in various ways.

You know you’re getting a good series with good casting. While it’s not something that is the be all and end all, it definitely helps!

4. It stays true to the source material

If you’re a fan of the novel (I highly recommend checking it out) then you’ll be happy to hear that the show is true to the source material. There’s very little changed, especially when it comes to the bones of the story.

Elements that have been changed are adapted for good reasons. In fact, it’s more to develop characters or friendships further, focusing on avoiding exposition or more narration from God.

One of the best parts of adapting the source material is 30 minutes of the third episode. I’ll say no more, but you’ll enjoy seeing more of two particular characters.

3. It’s a comedy

There are so many fantasy shows that have a mixture of drama and comedy. However, the comedy tends to be more about relief instead of being the main focus. It’s often about the action and the heartbreak.

Sometimes you want a comedy. That’s exactly what you get with Good Omens. It’s pure comedy with some humorous action thrown in. Whether it’s Aziraphale’s over-the-top, campy character or the way the Four Horsemen are brought together, there’s plenty to laugh about and enjoy.

2. It’s still a story of the apocalypse

Supernatural built up to the apocalypse in the earlier days. The final season is going to see God as the Big Bad. And it all started with Good Omens.

The story in the series is all about the apocalypse. At first, it’s the lead up to the apocalypse, with a missing Antichrist, a hellhound-turned-hound, and an angel and demon deciding they want the world to survive. While it’s a comedy, there’s still a story of Heaven vs. Hell, which will make you think plenty of the fifth season.

1. It’s something short enough to binge

Sometimes, you don’t want to spend hours watching one TV show. You’ve got that with Supernatural, right? Well, you don’t have to worry about that when it comes to Good Omens.

The season is just six episodes long. There are no plans to bring more seasons, so you can easily watch this within a week — one episode a night. However, you’ll certainly find yourself wanting to binge watch the season all over again.

There are no plans to bring a second season. This is one of those limited series that has the perfect beginning, middle, and end. Why extend something just for the sake of it?
