Roswell, New Mexico is now streaming on Netflix! What was the best episode out of all thirteen episodes of Roswell’s first season?

The CW ordered a Roswell reboot to series last season to mixed reactions from fans. Some weren’t excited about the idea of their favorite show being reinvented for modern CW audiences. But others were pleasantly surprised by The CW’s reimagining.

Personally, I think the series benefitted from having Carina MacKenzie, a former writer for The Originals, as showrunner. It’s entertaining and romantic. Roswell has already amassed a loyal group of followers. But which episode from the initial batch of thirteen stands out as the best of the series thus far?

If you haven’t finished watching season one of Roswell, New Mexico, beware of spoilers from this point on!

Could it be the season finale? The pilot episode? The one where Noah is discovered to be the murderous fourth alien?

It’s actually none of the above. The best episode of the season, in my opinion, (and according to fans on IMDb) is easily the penultimate episode of the season, “Creep.”

Isobel and Michael’s emotional arcs in this episode make it an exceptional hour of television. Isobel has to deal with the fallout of discovering how her own husband manipulated her and used her as a puppet without consent for years of her life. Noah molded her body into a weapon to dispose of Rosa when she didn’t reciprocate his feelings. It is his fault that Liz lost her sister.

Poor Michael discovers a harrowing truth about Project Shepard and the prison formerly known as Caulfield. He discovers a disturbing experimentation lab full of aliens. One of whom is his own mother. She is sickly and frail but Michael briefly sees her as the beautiful woman who used to care for him (played in a cameo role by MacKenzie’s friend, and former Vampire Diaries star, Kayla Ewell).

Before Michael even gets the chance to free his mother or try and speak with her, he inadvertently triggers a lockdown protocol. Alex barely gets Michael to leave before all of Caulfield blows up – including the aliens trapped inside. The look on his face while talking to with his mom and in the aftermath is heartbreaking.

All the actors brought their A-game in this episode. It provided us with much-needed emotional and character development that helped set up the finale and planted clues for the second season, thus making it the best episode of season one.
