10 things we want to see in All American Season 2
By Mads Lennon
All American Season 2 may be a few months out, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking about the things we’d most like to see from it!
The CW’s latest sports-themed teen drama All American has been making waves on social media the last couple of months since its Netflix debut. Now we know the series will officially return for its second season in October of this year! But we don’t know much about the second season beyond what was teased in the season finale. Here are some things we would love to see happen in All American’s sophomore run.
10. Olivia and Asher try a romantic relationship.

I started digging the Asher and Olivia dynamic in season one when Asher began to experience some character development. Obviously, they already have an established attraction to one another due to their past fling. Asher understands the dark parts of Olivia that not everyone has seen, yet he’s still there for her and supports her the same way she has for him.
And not that Asher’s father is a good guy, but did you see how happy Asher was to see Olivia in the kitchen making omelets in the Season 1 finale? Even if Asher and Olivia end up not working out, I think they should give it a legitimate chance, preferably with no cheating involved this time.
9. We need a new teenage antagonist in Beverly.
The one thing All American is missing is an HBIC character. Where’s the Blair Waldorf? The Naomi Scott? The Cheryl Blossom? Every teen drama has one!
It doesn’t have to be a woman either, it could be a new jerk-jock. Asher filled that role briefly but it’s clear the writers never intended to be an antagonist for the long-term. I’d like to see a real rival get introduced, not necessarily to Spencer either — how about for Layla or Olivia?
There was a teased rivalry last season when some of the mean girls at school spreading rumors about Layla but it fizzled out quickly. There are plenty of morally dubious adults around between Billy and his father, Cory, and various high school coaches, but I’d like to see more conflict generated by introducing a new teenage antagonist in Beverly.
8. Billy needs to do some serious soul-searching.
Having an affair was bad enough, but Billy did other shady things during the first season of All American even before that bombshell was dropped. First, if it’s true that Dillon is Billy’s son, we need to know if he knows. The implication is that he does. If that’s true, why hasn’t Billy tried to be in Dillon’s life more?
Now his family is in shambles and he is living with his dad again. Lest we forget about Billy’s shady drug test meddling when it came to his son. Billy has made some morally ambiguous decisions and he’ll need to reassess before he can move forward and make things right with his wife and children.

7. Jordan needs a better storyline.
Out of all the characters in season one, Jordan had the weakest storylines. It often felt like the writers weren’t entirely sure what direction they wanted his character to go in. Is he a rival to Spencer or a new friend? Is he going down a bad path towards drugs? Is he dating someone or not really? I’d like to see Jordan get a better plot focus this year.
His most interesting plot involved his grandfather and it put him in the background, outside the main action of the story. We also didn’t get many interactions between Olivia and Jordan, I’d like to see more sibling bonding (or fighting), just something that puts Jordan into the main story.
6. Let Coop be happy for a while.
Coop’s storyline in season one was very heavy. Not only did she get embroiled in gang violence and lose a close friend in Shawn, but she also came out to her parents as gay and was rejected for it. She had a lot of low points in season one that her musical dreams were put on the back burner.
With the Tyrone story wrapped up, I’m hoping Coop gets a chance to be a normal kid for a while in season two. When we left off, her mother had reached out to her, I’d like to see what happens with that thread and hope they can work on their relationship. I would also like Patience to stay in the picture. Maybe put Coop in a love triangle! Something more teenage-drama oriented.
