5 characters most likely to die in Stranger Things Season 3
By Josh Tyler
4. Will Byers
I’ll admit a little bias on this one. Will is probably the least interesting character on this show. He’s whiny and boring and the rest of the kids tend to operate a lot better without him.
In addition, in the past, Will has really only served as a plot device with regards to his connection to the Upside Down. In Season 1, the entire plot was about bringing him back from the Upside Down and in Season 2 he was a link to the Mind Flayer that gave the Hawkins gang the knowledge of how to close the Gate.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
But now? What exactly is Will’s purpose?
Presumably, after the Season 2 finale, his mom has “smoked” the Mind Flayer out of Will, so he shouldn’t have any connection to the Upside Down remaining. Without that, I don’t see any need for Will to be around. Plus, if there is one member of the core group of kids that the Duffers could kill off for shock value, it would be Will.
3. Bruce
A new addition to Hawkins, Entertainment Weekly describes Bruce as a journalist for The Hawkins Post “with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.” Right off the bat, that doesn’t strike me as a character who is meant to endear himself to the audience.
We only see Bruce briefly in the trailer, walking down a nondescript hallway in a bloody, unkempt shirt with a maniacal look on his face. From my viewing, it almost looks like Bruce is possessed, maybe by some entity from the Upside Down. At the very least, it’s apparent from the single shot that Bruce has lost his mind.
There has been a theory floating that the shots of rats running in a single direction, along with other shots from the trailers, indicate that there is some entity from the Upside Down that is mass mind controlling the inhabitants of Hawkins. If this is true, and Bruce is one of those sent to carry out the monster’s bidding, that spells bad news for him.
