The trailer for Netflix’s upcoming thriller, Secret Obsession, is out now, but it has failed to impress many fans. Is there more than meets the eye?

As a fan of Brenda Song who wants to see her succeed after The Suite Life and several short TV appearances, I really wanted to like Netflix’s Secret Obsession, and I still do! After checking out the trailer, though, I’m not very hopeful. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, watch it below and then scroll back up to discuss!

The story begins with enough mystery to grab out attention. Jennifer (Brenda Song) has been in an accident, but the details of it are very foggy. In fact, she isn’t even able to recognize her own husband, Russell (Mike Vogel), when he visits her at the hospital. He seems sketchy, but we go along with it.

Our suspicions are confirmed when he receives a call from a detective asking Russell to bring his wife in to answer some questions about the accident. Russell lies to Jennifer and doesn’t tell her about the call. What’s he hiding? Did he have something to do with the tragedy? Well, you don’t have to wrack your brain too much, the trailer pretty much tells us the story, including the big twist!

As it turns out, and Detective Page (Dennis Haysbert) is quick to discover, “Russell” isn’t Jennifer’s real husband. He is the one who attacked Jennifer and the real Russell because he is obsessed with her and wanted to be her husband. We even see Jennifer learn the truth in the trailer.

Additionally, the clip shows “Russell” digging in the backyard. I’m going to take a wild guess here and assume this is where he buries her real husband. What we are all guessing will happen is that Jennifer will fight and outsmart her captor and escape to tell the tale. Are we missing anything here?

Again, if you haven’t seen the trailer, you need to here:

Could there be more than meets the eye or are we being too hopeful? I really want there to be more surprises in store and an even larger twist in this story. Because, really, this can’t be it. Netflix has produced a few fails, sure (I’m looking at you IO), but never something so dull and at least most have been somewhat entertaining.

Across Netflix’s social media accounts, viewers are leaving comments complaining about the big twist being revealed (as well as many big parts of the movie) in the trailer. Bad editing or is Secret Obsession hiding something else? Here’s hoping it’s the latter!
