Don’t expect to hear the F-bomb dropped during Veronica Mars on Hulu. It’s okay that’s not going to happen and Rob Thomas accepts it.

There are going to be no F-bombs in Veronica Mars. Despite Hulu’s allowance of the F-bomb in other shows, such as The Handmaid’s Tale, the streamer told Rob Thomas to keep the word out.

And it makes sense. Even creator Thomas is on board with the lack of swearing, despite Kristen Bell’s love for the word. It all comes down to the first three seasons, according to TVLine.

More from Hulu

Veronica Mars Seasons 1 to 3 are now on Hulu, with the streamer getting the rights to them. But you have to remember that the series originally aired on UPN and then on The CW when UPN and The WB merged. These networks were for younger audiences. In fact, primetime networks still don’t allow the F-bomb.

The first three seasons were aimed at younger audiences. This fourth season is a revival for the original fans, but there are still younger fans tuning in. With the show being on Hulu, newer fans get introduced to the female, high school P.I. Hulu wants to make the fourth season accessible and suitable for all.

And it’s not all about suitability for the younger audiences that have helped to prove this series needed a revival. Hulu will want to match the tone and style of the original series. After all, it’s the first three seasons that have drawn young and old fans alike in.

The theme of the revival needs to match that. Suddenly bringing a slightly more adult (and yes, the original series did touch on adult material but it was limited enough for The CW) would cause problems.

That doesn’t mean the series isn’t going to have fun with these limitations. There are going to be words that sound like they should be the F-bomb. Just think of the way The Good Place gets around it.

To be honest, just because a character would say the F-bomb if they were real (and let’s face it, the Winchester brothers on Supernatural or the Salvatore brothers on The Vampire Diaries really should have sworn too) doesn’t mean it’s necessary on the TV. It’s a word. Allowed or not, in the end, it’s all going to be about the actual writing of the series.
