With Emmy nominations officially out, we all know that Bob’s Burgers was nominated for Outstanding Animated Program but which episode could earn the win?

Each year, it feels like Emmy nominations have more and more fanfare. It’s nice to see our favorite shows get recognized. Whether it be dramas, sitcoms or animated shows, most shows get their time in the sun. Coming up with the perfect episode to submit is tough as everyone has an opinion on which episode is best. For 2019 though, Bob’s Burgers couldn’t have made a better choice.

This year, Bob’s Burgers is nominated for only one award and that’s “Outstanding Animated Program.” One of only two Fox nominations, it’s nice to see the Belchers back on the ballot. This year, the show went with arguably one of their strongest episodes ever and that’s “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now.”

Before getting into why the episode deserved to be nominated, this is your spoiler warning! There will be spoilers from Bob’s Burgers episode, “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now.”

More from FOX

It would only be right to talk about what happened in the episode. In “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now,” the episode features Tina as she auditions to become a member of Boyz 4 Now with Boo Boo out of the group. In dressing like a boy, Tina’s able to blend in and ends up crushing on boys while waiting in line. Each time, she comes up with an elaborate singing fantasy in her head before getting caught. Eventually, we find out that Boo Boo was coming back all along, making it a moot point.

Most Tina-centric episodes are good, but this could be the best. It’s a quintessential Tina episode of her being completely boy-crazy with all the bells and whistles. Even though she learns her lesson, it’s funny to see what shenanigans she dreams up. This episode does a great job of showcasing how creative yet slightly creepy Tina can be but it doesn’t feel like they’re poking fun at her.

The plot and Tina’s character development are just one piece of the puzzle. “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now” is incredibly well-animated. Not to bring up Tina’s fantasies again but those are some of the most colorful and fun sequences the show has ever produced. No doubt it was a challenge to both come up with and bring them to life. Another major standout was the number of guest stars the series had including Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells and Daveed Diggs who all sang in the episode.

No surprise that this episode was written by sister duo, Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux. When those two put their minds together, there’s always magic. Somewhat they always nail every single Tina episode they write and this is no expectation. Everything about this episode is just magical and those are only a handful of reasons why it deserved a nomination. Thankfully, the Emmys felt the same.

Next. Bob’s Burgers: Looking back at the show 8 years in. dark

As amazing as this nomination, it does feel a little bittersweet. The show has some stiff competition with Adventure Time and Big Mouth. It’s the second year in a row that none of Bob’s Burgers cast was nominated for “Outstanding Character Voice-over Performance.” It does feel like they were snubbed again but at least, the show was nominated and that’s all that matters.
