Mayor Kline presents the Fun Fair, an entirely too large and extravagant fair, that undoubtedly cost too much money, for such a small town. The entire town is there, and the Mind Flayer monster is stomping through the woods towards their location. In many ways, it’s like the morsels of tasty flesh swimming near the beach as Jaws swims up.
As the kids sit in Hopper’s cabin strategizing about they could possibly win the ensuing battle, Nancy hears a noise in the woods. Will has hairs raise on the back of his neck. They all walk outside and see the giant monster approaching, knocking over trees in the way, claymationing its way towards them. There’s a real “release the Kraken” vibe to the entire thing.
3. The first fight
How much can you barricade a cabin from a 30-ft magical monster with tentacles? Sofas in front of doors and windows? It doesn’t matter, however, as tentacle from The Mist bust through the walls with face-huggers attached on the end. Jonathan chops with an ax and gets a pimp slap for his efforts. Nancy shoots an arm with a shotgun, but there is nearly no impact. El still has to save them. Eventually, she breaks off three face-huggers.
One tentacle, however, blasts in through the roof, grabs El by the ankle and tries to pull her away. The tentacle is a tongue and holds El upside down as the kids fight as hard as they can to save her. Nancy shoots some more after reloading.
Lucas grabs the ax and starts chopping Jack’s beanstalk. They get her free, but the bite wound on her leg is formidable. It takes every ounce of her energy and power to split the monster’s head so the group can escape.
