Sam’s memories of the past come up in Supernatural Season 6, Episode 13. Here’s a look at the events of Unforgiven.

We all knew how dangerous remembering his time in Hell could have been. Supernatural Season 6, Episode 13 very quickly got into the dealing with the negative side effects of remembering the past. Here’s a look back at the events that happened in “Unforgiven.”

Remembering the last year

More from Supernatural

After hearing stories of what the two had got up to in the last year or so, we get a flashback of Sam and Samuel on a hunt. It was clear this hunt was going to come up again, but the initial focus was on Sam’s attitude. Rather than try to save victims, he uncaringly used a man as bait and then shot the victims because they were “beyond help.”

When they were almost caught while leaving, Sam ruthlessly attacked the sheriff’s deputy before leaving. However, it turned out the poisoned men weren’t killed and, instead, turned into the spider-like monster, an arachne.

However, Sam isn’t quite remembering the events, not yet. We’re just shown what happened because Sam suddenly gets coordinates for the location of a year ago.

This time, women are going missing instead of men. Dean isn’t sure Sam should go on this hunt, but Sam wants to. That’s when he starts getting flashbacks of people there and the original hunt.

Dean worries throughout the hunt

Finding out that Sam is remembering bits of the past year, Dean starts to worry. This could mean he’ll remember the events from Lucifer’s cage, something that would have dire consequences for Sam.

All Sam wants to do is deal with the case and move on, but that’s difficult when he turns up at the sheriff’s office to find the former-deputy-now-sheriff and is thrown in jail. The former sheriff’s wife shows up demanding to know about her husband, but believes that Sam doesn’t know anything.

Sam gets released, allowing him to work the case. Of course, he starts remembering more along the way.

Meanwhile, Dean learns that the women going missing are all connected to Sam. They’re women he slept with the previous year. It’s clear that this is a trap for Sam.

Who would set the trap? Did you really think the sheriff’s wife believed Sam out of the goodness of her heart? She’s the one setting the traps, allowing her now-arachne husband to attack him and Dean.

A surprising ally

When Dean manages to get free of the arachne’s web, we actually learn that the wife didn’t want to trap Sam after all. He husband lured her into this and she lets Sam go. Sam manages to kill the arachne.

The Winchesters leave town like they do after every case. It’s not easy for Sam, though, remembering the things he did without a soul.

While Dean tries to point out that it wasn’t really Sam, Sam collapses on the floor with convulsions. He starts to remember his time in Lucifer’s cage.
