Box Office Earnings: Being the second film in Warner Bros’ blossoming Monsterverse, there was a lot riding on Kong: Skull Island to be successful. And even though it made over $566 million against a $185 production budget, you still got to wonder if the Monsterverse producers weren’t a little disappointed it couldn’t earn a little more. Especially since they marketed it as a precursor to a big Kong v Godzilla fight.

Critical Acclaim: Though the film was always going to be risky. It was presenting Kong in a way we weren’t used to seeing him: his home turf. No trip to New York needed! And critics responded positively to the story and this version of the big ape, earning a respectable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.
About the Role: Brie Larson plays Mason Weaver, an anti-war photographer and an investigative journalist who travels to Skull Island for her own reasons. Of course, the whole party is met with more than they bargained for when a Giant Ape starts throwing a temper tantrum. After that, Larson has to work with the other quirky misfits to survive and ultimately save Kong.
Simply the Best: In these giant monster movies, the last thing we usually care about is the characters. We just want to see giant creatures fighting other creatures! But Kong: Skull Island is the rare monster movie with an interesting human cast you want to follow. Brie Larson and the internet’s sweetheart Tom Hiddleston have great chemistry as they work together to provide the emotional heart of the film with a giant monkey.
