Wait, which death? There were a few deaths in the season that brought a bomber to Neptune. We’re talking about the one that brought a permanent end to LoVe’s story. Logan Echolls.
At the end of Veronica Mars Season 4, Logan got in the car to move it for street cleaning. A perfectly innocent act in itself, except there was a bomb in the car meant for one Veronica Mars. Our bomber’s limerick with the use of “Fiji” wasn’t just some weird red herring but a real clue. He was talking about Fiji time with the time difference.
Our bomber expected Veronica to have to move the car. Little did he know was that Logan was back and he and Veronica were getting ready to go away for their honeymoon. As Veronica finished getting ready, all the pieces of the final clue fell together. The backpack, the time difference, and our bomber.
So, did Logan really die? After all, we didn’t actually see his death on the screen, right? TV deaths have to happen on the screen.
In this case, it didn’t have to. We know that Logan got in the car. Even if he was just stood by it, he was close enough to receive the full brunt of the bomb. There is absolutely no way that Logan could have survived that.
The clue that Logan is definitely dead is in the “one year later” snippet at the end. Veronica is a grieving widow, telling us the story of how things have changed in Neptune since the bombings. It’s Spring Break again and she’s trying to deal with her feelings.
We find out that Logan hasn’t been there for a year. He’s dead. If he wasn’t and he’d been hiding for a year, it would be exceptionally cruel. Sure, he could be on deployment, but he’d have got in touch via Skype. That’s something we’d seen him do during the season to make a point that he’d be able to do that if possible.
Why would Rob Thomas choose to kill off one of the most adorable ships on TV ever? It’s all for the future of the show, according to E! News. Thomas wants to make more Veronica Mars, and he can’t do that if LoVe are together and happy. It’s a huge risk, but a worthy risk, in my opinion.
If there is a fifth season, Thomas shares that we can expect a mystery show. There’s no longer the teen soap element to it that fans loved when the show first started. Honestly, that’s what this fourth season has felt like, so I’m all for more pure mystery and more badass Veronica.
