Veronica Mars: Where was Mac in the Hulu revival?
Mac wasn’t around in Veronica Mars Season 4. We knew that was going to be the case, but that didn’t stop a mention of the super-hacker.
By now, you’ll have binged your way through the Veronica Mars revival on Hulu. If you haven’t, don’t worry about major spoilers. There will be no mentions of who the bomber was or the events of the final episode here. This is all about super-hacker Mac not being around and the mention she got.
Mac not being in the revival wasn’t all that surprising. Fans of Tina Majorino’s character had learned ahead of the release that she wouldn’t be part of the show. And it turns out that it was due to the lack of Mac-focused storyline, according to TVLine. Majorino wanted to continue Mac’s character development and that couldn’t happen with a season that was Veronica focused. None of the original series regulars got in the way of storylines.

However, Mac did get a mention. Rob Thomas didn’t want to make it look like Mac was just around the corner and had fallen out with Veronica and the others. You may have missed the mention, but early in the revival, Veronica says that her hacker best friend is in Istanbul. She’s out there enjoying herself on a vacation, which is why she can’t be around for the Spring Breaker bombing case.
It certainly would have been useful to have her. Had Majorino wanted to be part of the series, it would have been simple to write her in. Instead, Thomas found a way to add someone else to do a lot of the cyber parts.

Will we get to see Mac in the future? While we’re still waiting on news of Veronica Mars Season 5, there is a chance for Mac to appear if Majorino wants to. Thomas respects Majorino’s decision not to be part of the series. I’d say unless there’s a Mac-focused storyline allowing the character to develop more, we won’t see her in any future seasons.
