Universal Studios Hollywood’s newest mega-attraction for movie-lovers, Jurassic World: The Ride, reunited Chris Pratt and Blue the velociraptor at its grand opening celebration.

Buckle up, because it just got real! To celebrate the grand opening of Jurassic World: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood, the park’s President and COO, Karen Irwin, reminded fans of how they likely sat at the edge of their seats watching the Jurassic World film take them on an emotional and action-packed roller coaster ride.

“Little did they realize that they would soon have the opportunity, quite literally, to experience the thrill for themselves,” Irwin said. “Just as the Jurassic films have evolved, it made sense for the ride to evolve as well. This new iteration expands the scope of this next generation’s franchise for our fans, and we are beyond thrilled for everyone to join us on this very exciting journey.”

Joining Irwin on stage, Jurassic World director and screenwriter Colin Trevorrow spoke on his own family experiences at theme parks and how an attraction like Jurassic World: The Ride has the ability to create lasting memories. “That’s what makes a ride special. It can create a memory, just like movies can. I love Jurassic Park. I may be a filmmaker, but I’m also a fan, and one of the best things about fandom is sharing the things that we love with our kids,” Trevorrow said.

“There’s a whole new generation out there dreaming about seeing dinosaurs with their own eyes. And now parents who grew up on the first ride, get to share this one with their own children, and that’ll create new memories.”

A highlight of the grand opening event was when Blue walked out to join the special guests and cast for a group photo op on stage, but then the famous velociraptor recognized a friend! Chris Pratt (aka Owen Grady) reached out to Blue and calmed her down to her get ready for the photo. The pair had the full attention of the crowd and it was a memorable moment to kick off the celebration.

Now open at Universal Studios Hollywood

More from Movies

Jurassic World: The Ride is now officially open at Universal Studios Hollywood and is included in the price of your theme park ticket. We absolutely recommend heading to this attraction in the Lower Lot as soon as you enter the park, as the wait times can get high throughout the day (plus, you’ll have more time to dry off after getting wet).

This was our first time on the attraction and really enjoyed the interactions with Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, Dr. Wu, and all the dinosaurs (including Blue!) along the way. Know that even if you manage to avoid the splashes from the drop at the end of the ride, you WILL get wet in the opening scene as you drive through the tank, so be prepared to get rained on.

Along with the new ride, the fan-favorite “Raptor Encounter” has also received a makeover, where you can meet Blue and two new realistic dinosaurs, a Baby Raptor named Tango with her handler, and a life-size Triceratops. There’s also a new interactive “Dino Play” area for kids of all ages to explore and excavate giant dinosaur fossils — a great resource if you have some members of your group who don’t want to ride.
