iZombie has officially come to an end. Just what happened and would Liv finally get the cure she’s been after for five seasons? Here’s everything that happened in the iZombie series finale.

Can you believe after five seasons iZombie has come to an end? Despite it being the final season, the writers didn’t skip the humor, even in the iZombie series finale. Here’s everything that happened in the episode and how it all ended.

The journey back to Seattle

More from CW

Liv, Ravi, and Clive needed to get back to Seattle. It shouldn’t have been that hard. Would anyone outside the city recognize them?

Well, it looks like a woman does. She’s sure that she recognizes Liv from somewhere. Fortunately, a passenger next to Clive needs medication to fly and he and Ravi drug the woman’s mimosa to allow Liv to travel in peace.

However, the air stewardess recognizes Liv after seeing a news report on an iPad. It looks like it’s all over, but this woman has a brother who works in the police and they both want to help Liv, Ravi, and Clive get back to Seattle. It turns out they helped their sister.

The first casualty of the night

Sadly, we knew there were going to be casualties. It isn’t a series finale without a death or two. That first death was Peyton. After she managed to get the kids out of Blaine’s house, she was shot and killed. At least she gave her life for a good reason. The kids managed to get back to Liv.

It’s certainly sad, especially since it happens all while Clive is trying to get back to Seattle for Dale, who is having a baby. It’s hard to cry for Peyton when you’re excited to see a new life come into the world.

Poor Ravi can’t do anything for Peyton. He has to rely on Liv to get revenge while he makes the cure. Speaking of the cure, he’s going to need it. Peyton isn’t dead. She’s turned into a zombie. One of Blaine’s guys is killed though, and it’s a vision from Peyton that tells Don-E that Darcy definitely never died from her disease.

Is it really that surprising the well? Maybe it wouldn’t be if we could revel in this. However, Liv shows up and knocks Don-E down the well, too! We can’t even revel in that because we’re too busy excited about Liv and Zombie-Peyton reuniting.

Major figures out a plan

We were last left with Major trying to find a way to get the Max Rager from inside Filmore Graves. He figures it out by turning himself in, offering to fight for zombie-kind. Of course, he’s got another plan.

Just as it looks like Major is going to die, he’s saved by one of his soldiers. Sadly, she’s killed by Enzo when Major gets out with the Max Rager.

The problem is getting people to take this zombie cure. Major and Ravi turn to Johnny Frost to get him to take the cure live on air. He won’t do it, though. It’s not that he doesn’t trust the cure (okay, he doesn’t) but that he knows half of his viewers won’t believe that the cure is working.

Major finds another way. When Johnny talks about the cure on live TV, Enzo turns up to prevent them talking about it. However, Major takes the cure on live TV, leading to Enzo shooting Major. Just as it looks like Enzo will kill Major, Ravi saves the day. It turns out it was all a trick and Ravi injected Enzo with the cure.

Major had no idea about it, though. Ravi had switched out the cure for Max Rager to avoid Major from dying. Unfortunately, Liv and Clive believe Major is dead thanks to live TV and a voicemail Major leaves.

It’s not over yet

And you thought the end of Enzo and Blaine would be the end. There’s still the Dead-Enders to deal with. While Liv is mourning Major, Michelle shows up looking for Clive. While there, someone walks in and suddenly a bomb explodes.

We’re taken to 10 years later in a virtual cast with a reporter, Ravi, Clive, and Peyton, looking back over the events of the war. We’re told a story that Liv was killed in the bomb explosion. However, it turns out that Liv and Major managed to survive and are living together with the zombie kids that survived on Zombie Island.

In the end, Liv and Major show up in the virtual cast room with their friends. They’ve clearly seen plenty of each other but only virtually. However, Liv and Major offer a way to see each other daily. They could all come live on Zombie Island. “It only takes a scratch.”

In the end, the iZombie series finale did feel rushed in parts. I wish this was a two-parter. However, the ending was everything we needed. Liv and Major remaining zombies with their zombie kids and getting to live out their days together was everything the two characters needed and more.

Odds and ends:

  • Rob Thomas couldn’t help but get a Veronica Mars reference in by having a passenger on the plane confuse Liv for Kristen Bell.
  • I wished I could revel in Blaine’s downfall more but I’ll take what happened to him and Don-E. They deserve each other.
  • Liv and Major genuinely seemed happy with each other in the end.
  • I’m so glad Rob Thomas was able to offer us a full ending with all our main characters surviving.
  • Not everyone had to take the cure (obviously) but the show did bring up the fact that some would die without it. I’m glad they found a way to deal with that subject.
