If you miss HBO’s Game of Thrones, but aren’t ready to get into a similar series, why not watch a movie? Here are 10 movies to watch if you love Game of Thrones.

Our Game of Thrones watch has ended, but the pain of saying goodbye to one of the best series on television still feels fresh. Of course, it doesn’t help that the majority of fans weren’t too happy with how the series ended.

There are still so many questions! Not to mention, many stories we have been following from the beginning that never truly unfolded or were left forgotten. There’s also the fact that some of the best plots from the books didn’t come to life. It’s a shame. Oh, and don’t get me started on Cersei Lannister’s terrible, horrible, no good death! Our Queen deserved better. I won’t start a rant, we have a lot to be thankful for and many great memories as most of the seasons were beyond stellar.

Needless to say, if you are not ready to dive into another series because you don’t want to commit just yet or simply don’t have the time, you came to the right place! Surely you have a few hours to spare, instead? If this is the case, here are ten movies you can watch (and where to watch them) that’ll feel like home to Game of Thrones fans.

More from Movies

We selected the 10 movies below because they have similar vibes. From the setting to mystical creatures and survival of the fittest, watch one or all 10 of these movies if you find yourself missing Game of Thrones on Sunday nights….

The Lord of the Rings

This one goes without saying. Not to mention, it stars Sean Bean aka the beloved (but maybe not so clever?) Ned Stark on Game of Thrones. The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular movies on this list, and if you are searching for more than a couple of hours of entertainment, but not exactly a new series, this one is perfect for you!

The Lord of the Rings, though I’m sure you are aware, is a trilogy. The movies you need to search for are: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Where can you find these? All three movies are available to rent on Vudu and Amazon Prime.

Gladiator

Gladiator features a brilliant cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Crowe, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Richard Harris. If what you are seeking is action and bloodshed, Gladiator is the movie to watch. Check it out on Vudu or Prime Video.

Pan’s Labyrinth

Game of Thrones always gave fans chills with its supernatural elements. Well, prepare to be even more scared watching Guillermo del Toro‘s Pan’s Labyrinth. Even the trailer alone, which you can check out above, is sure to creep you out! Watch it on Amazon Prime.

Troy

Step into the medieval time period and watch Troy, with very similar survival of the fittest vibes, amazing action sequences, and the fight for power. The star-studded movie includes Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Erica Bana, Diane Kruger, and Rose Byrne. Watch Troy on Vudu or Amazon Prime.

The Hunger Games

Speaking of survival of the fittest, why not watch the Hunger Games trilogy (it’s technically four movies)? You’re probably thinking this movie shouldn’t have a place on this list, but hear me out! For all I know, you may not be of age and should not be watching Game of Thrones. Well, start with this movie, kiddo. Joking aside, The Hunger Games movies are all about getting power and freedom back. Find all movies on Vudu.

Flesh + Blood

Okay, fine, you don’t want to watch The Hunger Games, well, how about Flesh + Blood for your bloodthirsty soul? The movie features all the right elements that made Game of Thrones so popular, it just didn’t perfect them as the HBO series did. Flesh + Blood follows a violent knight and his followers as they overtake a castle after kidnapping a princess. Watch the movie FREE on Tubi TV or Vudu.

Ironclad

This British action-adventure movie stars James Purefoy, Brian Cox, Kate Mara, and more. Ironclad follows the siege of Rochester Castle by King John in the 13th century as a small band of Knights Templar try to defend it. Action, violence, and a splash of blood may be all you need to get over Game of Thrones. You may have to purchase this movie, though, as we can’t find it anywhere online.

Dragonslayer

The title of this movie should alone tell you why it makes it to this list. Is your life missing dragons now that the Mother of Dragons is gone (literally)? Watch Dragonslayer to see even more amazing creatures. For its time, the movie features great special effects — it is a movie from the early 1980’s! Watch it at YouTube Movies or Vudu.

Excalibur

For a unique take on the King Arthur stories, action, and plenty of Game of Thrones vibes, watch Excalibur. The movie also has a brilliant cast that includes Liam Neeson, Helen Mirren, and Patrick Stewart. To watch it, go to YouTube Movies or watch it FREE with a Starz subscription.
