13 Reasons Why Season 3 was all about who killed Bryce Walker. In the end, we got the answers, but someone else was blamed. It turns out that someone else has been killed. But is that really the case?
Yes, we’re talking about Montgomery de la Cruz. I’m not sure there will be many people mourning for him considering his actions, but Season 3 did delve deeper into who he was as a person. There was so much more that could have been explored to understand his psyche and the reasons he lashes out at people—not to excuse what he did but to understand more.

Of course, one of the biggest questions is whether Monty is actually dead on 13 Reasons Why. If this was any other TV show, I’d say possibly not because we didn’t see it happen on screen. We didn’t even get to see a body.
However, with this being 13 Reasons Why and considering the storyline where the death came out, I’m inclined to believe the death has actually happened. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was murdered by the other prison inmates. This was foreshadowed by Monty’s father when he mentioned what people do to inmates like Monty in prison.
For Ani and Deputy Standall, Monty’s death was convenient. They could blame the murder of Bryce on Monty without repercussions. Monty wasn’t there to give his side of the story. Deputy Standall didn’t have to turn his son in and Ani could get Clay off the hook.
But there is someone out there who does know where Monty was. It turns out Monty was with a guy that night, finally (in private, at least) accepting who he was. That guy, Winston, knows that Monty couldn’t have killed Bryce. Of course, it seems Winston has no idea what Monty was actually arrested for—or maybe he doesn’t want to believe that.
This is surely going to play a part in 13 Reasons Why Season 4. Alex Standall was the one to kill Bryce and Jessica Davis witnessed it all. Multiple people have covered up for them, including Deputy Standall, who burned the evidence. There’s no doubt that Winston is going to try to clear Monty’s name of one of the crimes he’s been accused of, which will put the lives of everyone in jeopardy.
