Did you already finish binge-watching season one of All American? Here are six other great shows you can watch while you wait for season two.

All American is, unarguably, one of the best new shows to air on The CW in the past couple of years. It stands out for another reason on the network. It isn’t a reboot, a spin-off, or a sequel of any kind. All American is an original new series from mastermind Greg Berlanti.

Spencer James is your average high school teenager, except he has a gift. Spencer is an excellent football player at South Crenshaw High. A coach from Beverly Hills, Billy Baker, takes a liking to Spencer and recruits him for his team. Spencer’s best friends and his mother encouraged him to take the opportunity. He’ll have far more chances to succeed in a place like Beverly than he will in Crenshaw.

But to play on the Beverly team, Spencer has to attend the high school. He moves in with the Baker family. The first season of the series follows Spencer’s journey to Beverly as he attempts to balance two different lifestyles, one in his glitzy new world and one back home where his best friend Coop is facing difficulties with Crenshaw gang activity.

On top of everything else, Spencer is still struggling to come to terms with the fact his father walked out on him when he was a kid. He’s desperate to figure out why his father left and to figure out a way to move on from the resentment he holds inside.

The series is heartfelt, hilarious at times, moving, and incredibly topical. If you haven’t watched it yet, the first season is now streaming on Netflix! For those of us who can’t wait for more, the second season will return this October. For now, check out some of these other television shows to help you pass the time!
