Every season has good and bad episodes. Before moving onto Season 7, it’s time to look at the ranking of Supernatural Season 6 episodes.

Every season has episodes that are great, mediocre, and just downright terrible. Of course, we all have our own opinions too. Like artwork, novels, music, and more, a TV show is subjective. Before I move onto looking at more throwbacks to get through Hellatus, it’s time to rank the Supernatural Season 6 episodes.

More from Supernatural

This ranking is based on two things: the IMDb ratings and my own opinion. While some episodes are rated lowly on IMDb, these episodes may have something small that makes them memorable and important. To me, that makes them good and important episodes.

It’s not easy to rank 22 episodes of a TV show. Rewatching also brings out some elements of the episodes that wouldn’t have stood out the first time, especially after 14 seasons of the TV show! Here’s my ranking of Supernatural Season 6.

Episode 14: Mannequin 3: The Reckoning

My least favorite episode of Supernatural Season 6 is Episode 14. I do enjoy the Doctor Who references in the episode, but I forget that it existed until I come up to it in a rewatch. While I’ve enjoyed similar types of episodes with vengeful spirits and possessions later, nothing about this episode caught my attention or made me need to watch it.

Episode 8: All Dogs Go to Heaven

I wanted to love this episode much more than I did. The idea of sleeper agents has always been fascinating, and using skinwalkers—one of the first creatures mentioned in the series but never seen until now—was awesome! However, the episode just didn’tpull everything off in the end.

Episode 13: Unforgiven

While I adore the flashbacks for Sam, this episode isn’t one of the strongest of Supernatural Season 6. It was predictable and lacked the excitement so many other episodes of the season did. It’s actually one of those episodes I forget about until I come up to it in a rewatch.

Episode 7: Family Matters

As much as I love Mitch Pileggi, I wasn’t a fan of Samuel Campbell. The idea of the character coming back made me groan, and I didn’t overly enjoy many of the episodes Samuel was in. I also didn’t care too much about the other Campbells. The strongest point of this episode was seeing Crowley as the demon he was.

Episode 6: You Can’t Handle the Truth

Supernatural Season 6 delivered some home truths in this episode. We got more confirmation that something was off about Sam, but not exactly was. While that was good, the monster-of-the-week wasn’t the most exciting. I wanted more from Veritas as a fan of Greek and Roman mythology.

Episode 5: Live Free or Twihard

At the height of Twilight, it was impossible for Supernatural not to do an episode that would parody it. However, it wasn’t a full parody. This had its own storyline, while also poking at the flaws in the vampire love story. It’s a fun episode, but not a necessary one within the overall season. The strongest part was finally getting that confirmation something was wrong with Sammy.

Episode 12: Like a Virgin

Ah, dragons. This could have been a fun episode. There were certainly some moments that stood out in a good way. However, “Like a Virgin” is overall a forgettable episode. I often get it confused for the one where the Winchesters pretend to be born-again-virgins!

Episode 1: Exile on Main St.

It’s not often that a season premiere hits so low on my list. Usually, I’m excited for the episodes to kick start a new season. The Season 6 premiere was a little anticlimactic. While we got Sam and Dean back together, it was clear something wasn’t right between them.

It wasn’t the reunion we got in the Season 3 premiere. While that was clearly because Sam was soulless, it didn’t feel like that the first time watching. I think more could have been done to hint at the soullessness at first for those to see the signs on a rewatch.

Episode 2: Two and a Half Men

While I enjoy watching Dean look after the baby, the overall storyline isn’t the most exciting for Supernatural Season 6, Episode 2. Maybe it’s the use of the Campbells within the episode, who I didn’t think were developed enough to really care about them. Plus, it was clear that something was off about Sam but not in a soulless way. More just in a “I’ve been away for a year” way.

Episode 3: The Third Man

Following on from the first two episodes of Supernatural Season 6, we lead straight onto the third episode. This is the first with Castiel showing up, and it starts his storyline of collecting souls. Overall, it’s not one of the most memorable episodes for me.

Episode 9: Clap Your Hands If You Believe

“Fight the fairies!” Yes, you know that’s what you think about when you watch this episode. It’s a fun one but can you really remember much more than Dean’s moments with the fairies? While it’s fun, it’s not the most important for the overall story.

Episode 16: …And Then There Were None

This Supernatural Season 6 episode had a mixture of good and bad. The strongest parts of the episode were around Rufus and Bobby. This was the episode I knew that I needed a prequel spin-off for these two characters. I’d love to know more about what happened to make Rufus never forgive Bobby.

However, the monster and the use of Samuel and Gwen Campbell wasn’t as strong as they could be. Without Rufus’ death, this episode would be forgettable.

Episode 19: Mommy Dearest

Bringing Mary Winchester into this episode was certainly an excellent twist. However, this episode wasn’t as strong as it could be. There are some funny moments, though, especially the ad-libbing when in the diner about Castiel being a “baby in a trenchcoat.”

In a way, Eve’s death was anticlimactic. At the same time, it shows Dean’s ability to plan ahead. He knew there was a chance Plan A wouldn’t work out so created his own Plan B.

Episode 10: Caged Heat

There are various reasons that I enjoyed this episode. One of those was seeing Meg turn from enemy to frenemy. It wasn’t easy to trust her, but it was fun to watch her give the Winchesters and Castiel time to get to Crowley as she took on the hellhounds. We saw just why she was able to crawl out of Hell and become a foe to be reckoned with.

Episode 21: Let It Bleed

I know for many this isn’t a great episode. After a rewatch, this episode has so much to enjoy deeper within the story. We get that reminder that nobody connected to the Winchesters is safe. Demons will always find their weaknesses.

However, it’s the end of the episode that stands out for me. Dean makes this impossible choice to remove the memories of Lisa and Ben to protect them. While Sam brings up how bad an idea it is, he doesn’t push the subject. He can see how hard this was for Dean and moves on.

Episode 4: Weekend At Bobby’s

This Bobby-centric episode of Supernatural Season 6 is a must-watch over and over again. We get to see how he lives day-to-day, the hunters he helps and the research he does.

Side characters aren’t for everyone but they do need character development. When it comes to Bobby Singer, he deserves it after the amount he’s helped the Winchesters. I just wish he could have found a little bit of happiness.

Episode 17: My Heart Will Go On

When you want an episode to just throw on, “My Heart Will Go On” is a must. We get more Balthazar, as he shares why he stopped the sinking of the Titanic. This is also a chance to meet the Fates, bringing us more of the Greek mythology into the series. Also, who couldn’t love Ellen’s return and how supportive she was of Bobby.

Episode 18: Frontierland

The trip to the Wild West in “Frontierland” was fun. More than that, it offered plenty of connections to previous seasons, giving fans of the second season something to enjoy with Samuel Colt showing up. It’s one of those episodes that can easily be watched over and over again.

Episode 20: The Man Who Knew Too Much

This is the first Castiel-centric episode of the entire series. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially those who aren’t a fan of the character. However, the episode, for me, is extremely important. We get this chance to understand Castiel a little deeper, learning more about the choices he’s made up to this point.

Episode 11: Appointment in Samarra

I love any episode that Old Death shows up in. Supernatural Season 6, Episode 11 is just one of those episodes that stands out for so many other reasons, though. It’s hugely important for Dean, as he learns more about destiny and the natural order. We see Death not as an evil being but as a necessary part of the universe.

Episode 15: The French Mistake

I know it’s going to seem odd not putting this as the number one choice. It is the highest rated episode of the season according to IMDb, after all. However, it’s a monster-of-the-week episode with a tiny bit of overall storyline thrown in. The Supernatural Season 6 finale is stronger when you consider the whole of the season.

However, “The French Mistake” is certainly one of the strongest episodes of the entire season in its own right. The show managed to give us something new and exciting after six years. It’s not always that easy!

Episode 22: The Man Who Would Be King

There’s no doubt that the Supernatural Season 6 finale is the strongest episode of the entire season when it’s all considered together. This is where everything falls into place. We see Crowley as the demon he really is, Castiel is the smart soldier that he’s always been, and Sam gets a world of development as he chooses to accept everything that happened in Hell to make sure he can help Dean and Bobby stop Castiel and Crowley.
