Two Sentence Horror Stories premiered another episode earlier this week, titled Only Child. But what is it truly about?

CW’s new horror series has been offering fans episodes with deeper meanings behind them. Hard-hitting topics that have been covered so far include mental illness, domestic violence, and immigration. Two Sentence Horror Stories has also provided viewers with fun episodes such as “Tutorial,” and there always appears to be a lesson to be learned. What can be said about the latest episode, “Only Child”?

In “Only Child,” the title says it all. The episode follows a family of three — a dedicated mom and dad to their only child. Their Haitian grandma is living with them, she only just recently moved in. She is mother to the child’s father, and she heavily believes in evil spirits, ancestors, and spells.

When the episode begins, it seems she is the evil one, chasing the boy around convinced that he has the devil in him. The child appears frightened and we feel instantly sorry for the boy. Later, the story takes us back to earlier in the day. The young boy is disrespecting his grandmother and not listening to her requests. When she tells him “no,” he freaks out.

Note: By the way, I’m not sure names were given here to the characters. If so, I can’t remember them.

Upon hearing their child in distress, the parents rush over to investigate and calmly tell grandma that they don’t tell the boy “no” because he is allowed to express how he feels and they don’t want to get in the way of the boy just being himself. You can’t help but give a huge eye roll, they’re those types of parents aka one of the many things wrong with the world today.

This had me wondering — maybe the child isn’t possessed. Could grandma, not used to kids running wild and free to do as they please, find this all so strange that she begins to hear voices and imagine things?

Next. It Chapter Two: The case of Richie and Eddie. dark

In the end, the child commands his parents to kick grandma out and they wave goodbye to her as she has an asthma attack. Was it all her imagination or is the boy truly possessed? They do allow her to die and watch with a smile on their face, which I don’t think they would have. Maybe the parents really are under the demon’s control? But who is the demon? A spirit or a spoiled brat?
