Supernatural Season 7, Episode 1 saw the Winchesters bind Dean to kill Castiel, but it was never going to work. Here are the top five lines from the episode.

Supernatural Season 7, Episode 1 picked up where the Season 6 finale left us. Castiel had taken in all the souls from Purgatory and became the new God. It would force the Winchesters and Bobby to bind Death to them. Just how would that work out?

As part of our throwbacks to get through Hellatus, we look at the best lines of the episodes. Here are the five best lines from “Meet the New Boss.”

You’re wrong. I am utterly indifferent to sexual orientation. On the other hand, I cannot abide hypocrites like you, Reverend.

I like to think that this is the way the real God thinks. Differences should be respected. Different sexualities shouldn’t be feared and condemned. While Castiel was God, he was just (sort of). He went after the hypocrites and not those who didn’t take the Bible literally. After all, the Bible was written by man to serve their specific purpose, but that’s for another debate.

I’ve got to wonder the more I think about this line, though. How would the Castiel pre-Winchesters have thought about sexual orientation? I’m assuming it wouldn’t have bothered them considering angels would take on vessels of different genders.

Crowley comes in with a calm, sarcastic attitude. I love that he was always sassy, whether he was on the right or wrong side of a person. This is how Crowley worked up to becoming the King of Hell. Nothing phased him. He had a brilliant poker face, and it’s why I loved the character so much.

He’s everybody’s boss! What do you think he’s going to do when he finds out we’ve been conspiring? You do… want to conspire, don’t you?

Again, it’s all about Crowley. He wasn’t stupid. When he realized what had happened to Castiel, he decided to play the game. Sure, he’d work with Castiel because it meant keeping his life.

However, in case Supernatural Season 6 didn’t make it clear, Crowley would always play both sides. He’d be ready in case one choice turned out bad. Should it really have been all that surprising that he would later work with Dick, the British Men of Letters, and others against the Winchesters?

You know how I’m going to deal? I’m going to stuff my pie hole. I’m going drink. And I’m going to watch some Asian cartoon porn and act like the world’s about to explode. Because it is.

Dean has the next line, as we delve into his personality a little deeper. He’s been hurt by his best friend, and he just can’t deal. If it was Sam, he’d fight. That’s just the way his mind works because that would be his fault—he would believe that he should have protected Sammy.

When it comes to Castiel, he knows that he’s not completely to blame. Castiel has made a choice and he can’t quite deal with that. So, instead of fighting, he runs. He buries his head in the sand because he just can’t deal with it. I love that we get to see this different side to him.

Hi, Sam – long time no spooning.

In the end, we realize just how bad the situation is for Sammy. He’s hallucinating Hell, and part of that means hallucinating Lucifer. This is our first introduction to “Hallucifer,” and it’s just an excellent way to bring him in. Of course Sammy would know Lucifer’s true personality. He spent time in Hell with him.

I think this is the moment that we got to know more about Lucifer. While it was a hallucination, it was as close to the real deal as possible. Mark Pellegrino has always done excellently in this role.
