Jeffrey Dean Morgan lands lead role in Shrine: Everything we know so far

While Supernatural may be coming to an end, the SPN Family actors are ready for other projects. In the case of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, it’s all about the upcoming horror movie, Shrine.

Morgan made a name for himself as John Winchester in Supernatural. He last appeared in the 300th episode and it’s unclear whether he’ll be back for any of the final season. While he’s previously said he would love to come back, it really is going to depend on whether there’s a storyline there.

Regardless, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is making a name for himself elsewhere. He recently won the Saturn Award for Best Guest Appearance in a Television Show for his role of Negan in The Walking Dead. And now he’s landed the lead role in Shrine from Screen Gems, which will be based on James Herbert’s novel of the same name, according to Deadline.

What do we know of Shrine so far?

Very little is known about the movie adaptation right now. Evan Spiliotopoulos is creating the screenplay and he is also on board to direct. He joined the project in December 2018, when Deadline also announced that Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House would produce the movie.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the first cast member to join the movie. This isn’t the first time Morgan has worked with Ghost House. They worked together on The Possession in 2012.

Production for the movie will start in February 2020. There’s no release date for the movie as of yet.

Who will the Supernatural actor play?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play a disgraced journalist, as long as the movie sticks to the novel. When Gerry Fen learns about divine miracles in a small town in New England, he decides they could help to resurrect his career. However, he soon learns there’s something darker behind these “miracles.”

This will be perfect for an actor with experience in Supernatural.
