The Winchesters learn not to get in the middle of a witchy domestic in Supernatural Season 7, Episode 5. Here’s a look back at the events of the episode.

Supernatural Season 7, Episode 5 delivers a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel reunion with Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters guest starring. Throughout “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” the Winchester brothers learn not to get in the middle of a witchy domestic.

It all starts with two unusual deaths. A real estate agent was killed by a hyperactive hairdryer while at a salon and an architect was boiled in a hot tub. Searching behind the hairdryer leads to Dean finding an ancient coin. It has to be magical, and that means a witch.

Finding a connection

A third mysterious death leads to the Winchesters finding a connection. All three vics were connected to a failed shopping center project, and the only one still alive is Don Stark, the developer. The Winchesters pay him a visit and learn that he and his wife, Maggie, are separated.

Meanwhile, Bobby has been researching the coin, which turns out to be Romanian Cyrillic. While seeing Don, Sam goes snooping and finds some mysterious items, including evidence of witchcraft. Sam and Dean are sure Maggie is involved.

Dean heads to Maggie’s house, where there are coins on an altar and bloody pictures of the victims. Don’s secretary’s picture is on the altar, unmarked. The Winchesters are sure the secretary is the next victim and they head straight to her.

The next attack

The Winchesters get to the secretary’s house just in time ot see her coughing up blood. Sam finds a coin in her cupboard and shoots it, destroying the spell and saving the secretary. Naturally, she’s in shock, but she’s even more confused when the Winchesters tell her to leave town and split from Don. The two were never together.

Meanwhile, Don arrives at Maggie’s charity foundation art auction. He wants Maggie to stop killing people because the FBI is investigating. Maggie makes it clear that the Winchesters are hunters and she will deal with them. Don is angry that Maggie won’t step back.

So, while the Winchesters perform a spell to kill Don and Maggie, Don returns to the charity auction and uses his own magic to destroy Maggie’s function, killing someone and melting the artwork. The Winchesters show up at the end and figure out they’re in the middle of a lover’s tiff.

Attempting to kill the witches

Sam and Dean head back to Maggie’s house and try to kill the two witches with their spell. It doesn’t work, and Maggie notes the chicken feet that had gone off. Don starts to spell to kill the hunters, but Dean tries to help fix up their marriage.

It’s not going to be that easy. The couple has had problems since the Renaissance, but fighting the Winchesters does bring them together for now. The witches leave, and Sam and Dean just head back to the motel room.

Back at the motel room, a Leviathan turns up. Dean kills him, but it doesn’t do anything. Just as the Leviathan is about to kill Dean, Don turns up and electrocutes him. Don then pulls out coins from the brothers’ mattresses. Maggie doesn’t forgive like he does, but he is thankful that his marriage is back on track. Taking the coins with him, Don leaves the Winchesters.

With a knocked out Leviathan, the Winchesters chain him to the back seat of the Impala. Sam uses the ending to get Dean to open up about what’s bothering him, but Dean refuses. Their situation is unresolved, for now.
