Vikings Season 6: Does Ivar have a plan?
While we don’t know when Vikings Season 6 will premiere, there are some teases of what to expect. What about Ivar’s plan after he escaped Kattegat?
We left Ivar in a dangerous predicament in the Vikings Season 5 finale. After Bjorn and others found a way into the walls of Kattegat, Ivar knew that he was outmanned and at risk of being killed by his brothers. So, he decided to escape.
Something we all wondered was whether he had a plan. Did he already know that he would need to escape and did he know what he would do after that? Michael Hirst, showrunner and sole writer of the series, spoke to CinemaBlend about Ivar and that big decision.

It turns out that it wasn’t a plan. Why would it be? Ivar thought himself as a god. He believed the people of Kattegat worshipped him. He definitely believed that his wife, Freydis, was on his side. Did he really think that she would betray him and allow Bjorn and the others in through his secret exit?
That exit was there for him, just in case. It was his route out if he needed it. The idea of it being used against him wasn’t in his mind—and his belief in himself and his superiority has always been his weakness.
Hirst believes that when we last saw Ivar, he was just trying to escape. He knew that Bjorn had beaten him on this occasion. If he wanted to live another day, he was going to have to get out of Kattegat. He took a chance of escaping on the back of a wagon.
So, what will he do next? That’s something Vikings Season 6 will answer for us. Hirst shares that we’ll see the next part of his journey and what happened to him after he escaped. Will he work on gaining a new army to take down Bjorn? More than likely, right? This is Ivar, after all!
