Supernatural recap: How is Kevin one of the ghosts of Hell?
Rowena comes in to help the Winchester brothers, while Kevin tries to do what he can on the inside. Here’s everything that happened in Supernatural Season 15, Episode 2.
There were plenty of returning faces in Supernatural Season 15, Episode 2. Of course, we were most concerned about Kevin Tran being one of the spirits of Hell. His situation was quickly explained, while the Winchesters, Castiel, and Rowena dealt with the town-wide quarantine situation.
Let’s start with the Winchesters dealing with the town’s situation. Many of those in the high school were sneaking back into their homes, partially not believing about the gas leak and partially because they needed things from home. Of course, that led to many of them being possessed and killed.

However, the Winchesters tried to keep everyone safe. They put out a call to all hunters in the area to help patrol and look after people. It was smart thinking, and the reason why one returning face was around. Ketch was around when the message came in so came for a surprise assist, which included shooting spirits with iron flakes that looked a lot like confetti.

Sam has a plan
Rowena comes to town to help out with the situation. Sam Winchester immediately has a plan. Could she create another crystal holder to contain the spirits in the way she did when creating the soul bomb to take care of the Darkness. While she’s not sure how well it will work (because it’s uber powerful magic), she tries.
It shouldn’t be all that surprising that it works. After all, we knew the current situation wasn’t going to last the whole season. Of course, there are likely some twists and turns coming.
At one point, it did look like the souls were going to get the crystal. Francis Tumblety, a spirit Rowena knew from the past, possessed Ketch and tried to get the crystal to use it as a weapon. Dean shot Ketch in the shoulder with an iron round, getting rid of the possession without killing Ketch.
Kevin Tran went to Hell!
While in the town looking for a couple of fallen hunters, Dean and Ketch are attacked by Lizzie Borden. Just as it looks like Dean is going to be killed by ax, another spirit tells Lizzie to go away. It’s none other than Kevin.
Wait, Kevin was in Hell? It turns out that God sent him to Hell instead of Heaven. Yeah, great!
Because God himself sent Kevin to Hell, he earned a bad boy rep. However, Francis knew of Kevin’s connection to the Winchesters. It’s not long before the spirits turn on Kevin and try to use him as a way to get out of Hell.
Once the spirit situation is contained (for now), Kevin decides that he wants to stay on Earth. Belphegor explains that spirits that went to Hell can’t go to Heaven. God just made an exception for John Winchester and Bobby Singer. God isn’t exactly going to offer Kevin a chance to go to Heaven, is he?
So, if it’s a choice of Hell or Earth, Kevin wants to choose Earth. It may mean he’ll go crazy but it also means we stand a chance of seeing him again in Supernatural Season 15.
God turns to family
It’s all about family in Supernatural, so is it all that surprising that God turns to Amara for help? He doesn’t exactly say it’s for help at first. He turns up in Reno with the suggestion that he and Amara go travel the dimensions or even create a new species together.
Amara quickly figures out that God needs something from her. The injury to his shoulder has weakened him to the point that he can’t even leave the universe. Now he’s scared. I would be too if I’d just angered the Winchesters the way he had!
Think Amara is going to help him? Oh no! She’s done, and leaves Reno without her little brother.
