A Million Little Things: Who is Eric and how is he connected to Maggie?

A Million Little Things is known for bringing twists, turns, and emotional storylines. One of those came in the form of Eric and we’ve found out who he was.

A Million Little Things has certainly brought all the feels in Season 2. We’ve had plenty of ups and downs, and we’re only just four episodes in. For Maggie, it’s been mostly focused on unresolved issues and grief surrounding her brother, Chad. And then her mother turned up with her “boy toy.”

Titled “the perfect storm,” the show’s synopsis made it clear that we were going to find out that Maggie would learn about Eric’s identity. We knew that it was never going to be a young boyfriend, right?

Personally, I thought Eric was going to be a long-lost son, maybe one adopted before Maggie and Chad were born. A Million Little Things went for something completely different, but there was still a familial connection within it.

Patricia shared that the night Chad had died, he didn’t die in the accident itself. He died afterward at the hospital, and that gave Patricia time to donate Chad’s organs. It brought something good out of something bad, and one of those good things was Eric. He received Chad’s heart.

It turns out that Patricia wants to get to know Eric. However, her husband found out about the emails and he’s the one who left her, unable to connect to Eric because of the heart.

Likewise, Maggie couldn’t quite accept Eric. It wasn’t him, but the whole situation. She was angry toward her mother for lying about Chad’s death for so long. Maggie was understandably angry at Patricia putting a relationship with Eric before the rest of her family because while Eric has Chad’s heart, he is not Chad.

So, A Million Little Things delivers something heartbreaking but heartwarming at the same time. We see the good that can come from something awful, but not everyone accepts it in the same way. The information opens the wounds from years earlier, but I get the feeling that Maggie can move forward from this and Eric will become a part of her life.
