If American Horror Story: 1984 is keeping with the show’s trend, then we’re at the halfway point, but which reveal has been the most shocking this season?

There’s no shortage of shocking moments on every season of American Horror Story. Now on its ninth season and five episodes in, the series has already taken some huge risks. Whether it be characters, plot lines or back stories, American Horror Story: 1984 has already taken the audience on a series of twists and turns.

Looking at the last 5 episodes, it’s easy to see that not everything is as we imagined. Of course, that’s no surprise as Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk relish in the idea of making fans go crazy.

In particular, American Horror Story: 1984 has been a wild ride, and despite only half of the episodes currently released, there has already been a lot of shocking moments. Before we move past the halfway point, it’s only right to look back at some of the most shocking, craziest and down-right bizarre moments from the beginning of this season.

Spoiler alert! Before getting into the moments, it’s pretty obvious that there’s going to be spoilers. If you haven’t watched episodes 1-5 of American Horror Story: 1984, then this is your spoiler warning as I’ll be discussing plot-points from each of the episodes. With that out of the way, let’s look at some shocking moments.

More from FX

For this list, I’ll be looking at each of the characters and the shocking moments that they’ve shared or have happened to them. Starting off with Chet, he’s one of the more lackluster characters as all we really know is that he was banned from the Olympics for using steroids. He was also supposedly killed in episode 5 but it’s unclear if he’s actually dead.

Moving to Ray, we know that he was killed by Mr. Jingles while trying to escape. We also found out that he’s “stuck” there because he was killed there. To make things worse, he left Chet in a pit to die and even shared that he accidentally killed a pledge for his fraternity.

Then there’s Brooke, she’s become one of the most confusing characters especially of recent. Of course, the major moment that Brooke shared was that her wedding ended up being a murder-suicide done by her fiance. Additionally, Brooke ended up losing her virginity to Ray even though he’s dead.

Last, but not least, Brooke killed Montana at the end of episode 5 and was carted away to jail. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about what’s going to happen to Brooke soon.

Moving to Montana and Xaiver, these two don’t have as much baggage as Brooke. We find out that Montana is in a relationship with the Night Stalker and that she’s using him to try to kill Brooke. Even though she was killed by Brooke, she wanted to exact revenge since she thinks Brooke was responsible for killing her brother. As for Xavier, he’s trying to run away from his past in which he did porn to try to get his name out there and is eventually killed like Montana.

Before getting to the last two ladies, it’s time to talk about the killers. First up is The Night Stalker, who we don’t know much about. He’s in a relationship with Montana and gave himself to Satan, resulting in his resurrection.

As for Mr. Jingles, he finds out that he wasn’t the one who committed the murders but still gave himself to Satan so he could leave the camp. While all of the plot-points have been shocking so far, the major twists have come from Margaret and Donna.

Throughout this season, we’ve already learned a lot about Donna. We found out that she kidnapped nurse Rita and took her place. She’s also the person who was responsible for letting Mr. Jingles out. All of this goes back to Donna finding out that her father is a serial killer and trying to make peace with it. Considering how trustworthy she seemed, it was a major 180 for her character.

Last, but not least, is Margaret who decided to reopen Camp Redwood and is the sole survivor of the 1970 massacre. Easily, the most shocking moment featuring Margaret and of the entire series is that Margaret is actually “Mr. Jingles.” She is the one who committed all of the murders and framed Benjamin for it. She’s also doing the same thing to Brooke, just repeating the cycle over 10 years later. No doubt that we’re going to learn more about Margaret as the season progresses and see what else she’s capable of.

Of all the shocking moments, my most shocking was finding out that Margaret was the killer. A close second was that Donna released Mr. Jingles. It’s also interesting that if you die at Camp Redwood, you’re stuck there. There has been no shortage of shocking moments thus far this season. While it might not get as much love from fans, American Horror Story: 1984 has been pretty good. It might not be anyone’s favorite, but it’s been a decent season.

American Horror Story: 1984 airs Wednesdays on FX at 10/9c.
