Katherine thinks the children should learn the truth about Charlie’s paternity in A Million Little Things. Is it really the right time for that?

There’s been a huge question surrounding A Million Little Things. When would the children learn that Eddie is Charlie’s father and not Jon? It sounds like that is coming up soon, as Katherine wants to end the lie.

It’s understandable why Katherine wants this lie to end. All the adults know anyway, and it’s getting complicated to explain why Eddie is babysitting (note: being a father to) Charlie. I love that Katherine stepped up when Eddie wanted to go out and look for Colin and that she decided to tell a stranger the truth about the baby’s parents. She isn’t ashamed, and she shouldn’t be. It’s not her or Charlie’s fault.

However, is it right to bring the children into it right now? Eventually, I’d say yes that they all need to learn the truth. I don’t agree with Charlie growing up not knowing who her biological father is, especially when he wants to be part of her life. But this isn’t one of those usual affair situations. Jon isn’t still in Delilah’s life, and the reasons why are what makes this a problem.

For Theo, it’s going to be confusing but not too bad. He’ll be excited that he does have a little sister, in a way. Of course, there’s going to be the knowledge that his dad cheated on his mom and that his parents aren’t going to have another baby together, but there’s still the excitement of having a sibling.

Sophie and Danny certainly won’t feel that way. They’re older and they’re the ones dealing with the loss of their father. By learning the truth about Charlie, they’ll also learn the truth about Delilah’s affair with Eddie. The wounds are still raw and this will open them up again.

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS – “austin” – Delilah makes arrangements for a family photo shoot with longtime photographer Seymour (guest star Richard Kind), but Danny struggles to accept that this new family does not include his father. Meanwhile, Rome and Regina make big plans to celebrate Rome’s parents’ 50th wedding anniversary and are forced to take a closer look at their own marital woes; Eddie and Katherine look for a fresh start; and Gary feels disconnected from Maggie on a new episode of “A Million Little Things,” airing THURSDAY, OCT. 24 (9:01-10:01 p.m. EDT), on ABC. Of course, then comes the question of when the right time is to tell them. Is there ever going to be a right time? Probably not, especially as A Million Little Things has shown us. Things happen that we can’t control, and sometimes you just have to do what you think is right in the moment.

So, maybe, with that thought in mind, this is the right time to tell the children. It saves Charlie growing up believing her father is the man he isn’t and helps to settle the dust and emotions between the other children. Just hopefully, none of them take their understandable anger out on Charlie when it was Delilah and Eddie who did this.
