Dean faced a heartbreaking moment in Supernatural Season 15, Episode 7. We break down that moment in Day 6’s Dean-mas piece.

I try not to include spoilers, but Dean-mas Day 6 does include spoilers from Supernatural Season 15, Episode 7. It’s a topic that I felt the need to cover. If you haven’t caught the episode yet, head over to The CW App and watch for free now!

So, Dean headed off on a case of his own in “Last Call.” It took him to a Texas town, where he ran into an old friend. Christian Kane guest-starred as Lee, a hunter from Dean’s past. This was a man who knew John Winchester and went on a few hunts with the Winchester family.

As great as the trip down memory lane was, we knew there was something bad that would happen. Dean doesn’t get these happy moments, after all.

So, would Lee get killed during the hunt? Well, yes but not by the monster. He was killed by Dean because he was the monster.

It was heartbreaking for Dean to realize a friend was the one that he’d have to kill. In this moment, we saw all this love he had for another hunter disappear. It turned to anger, hatred, and regret. But at the same time, there was a part of him that wanted it all to be a dream. He didn’t need to say anything. This was just something we could tell from Jensen Ackles’ facial expressions throughout the end of the episode.

More importantly, we saw the type of man that Dean is. Supernatural Season 15 has seen him struggle with everything going on. He’s been in denial about God, staying out of the fight as much as possible purely because he’s scared. This was arguably the case he needed to see that he is important in the world.

If he didn’t take down Lee, who would? Lee had clearly been at this for some time but other hunters hadn’t come across him. It took Dean to realize that this was a case and figure out who the “monster” was.

Within this heartbreaking moment, Dean got this confirmation that he was required. It was the renewed idea that he’s doing the right thing. Hunting is a hard life and it’s a thankless job, but it’s an important one. Saving people feels good.

It all links back to what he told Lilith before he knew she was Lilith. Despite all the bad, he likes the job because of the lives they save. Supernatural Season 15, Episode 7 gave him the reminder he desperately needed after learning that God is still out there.
