Now streaming: Dracula is now on Netflix
Are you ready for a new retelling of the Dracula story? It’s time to turn your attention to Netflix. The latest adaptation is now streaming.
There have been countless retellings of Dracula’s story over the years. Some have been excellent, some have been terrible, and others have been the mostly hilarious bad spoofs the world has ever known. And now it’s time for a new retelling of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, now streaming on Netflix.
The BBC adaptation aired over the course of three nights starting Jan. 1, 2020. There are only three episodes, but don’t think that means this is a series to skip. Like Sherlock, this will take you through a twisty, deep story about the world’s most famous vampire.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
And it’s compared to Sherlock thanks to the creators behind it. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have teamed up to bring Dracula to life. In fact, all three episodes were written by both, telling a story that takes us through Eastern Europe to tell the tale of the vampire against the descendants of his arch-nemesis, Van Helsing.
Unlike previous stories that have been told from Van Helsing’s view or even from Mina Harker’s view, this is a story from the titular vampire’s view. He is the hero of his own story. After all, aren’t we all the heroes of our own stories? We’d never make ourselves the villains, right?
This leads to us gaining a deeper understanding of the man behind the fangs. It’s a chance to get to know who he thinks he his and the actions he thinks he should take.
So far, there are only plans for one season. Of course, this could become a series like Sherlock, which saw three episodes per season released every couple of years. Great storytelling works like this, and we’re still begging for more Sherlock, right?
Claes Bang stars as the Count, with Dolly Wells as Sister Agnes Van Helsing, John Heffernan as Jonathan Harper, and Morfydd Clark as Mina Harker. Mark Gatiss, Jonathan Aris, and Clive Russell also star in the three-episode series.
